Accidental Folder Deletion

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I was trying to edit a CFG file on an engine to give it double the thrust. I tried this but it kept exploding, so I tried to make it more stable, and the fuel tanks ran out to quickly. I gave them more fuel, and after a long and painful editing wild goose chase ended up quitting and deleting a folder that I (at the time) thought I had made copies of. I cleared the recycle bin, and when I booted up KSP today, I learned that I had eliminated the engine folder entirely. I need help getting it back. Can a single engine file be shared? Do I need to download a new copy from the KSP store? Is there an easy answer? Please help.

Did you buy the game through Steam?  If so, you can go into Steam and choose "verify installation", and it'll scan your installation, see if there's anything missing or munged, and fix it with a fresh copy from the internets.  Very handy for repairing accidentally corrupted installations (I've used it more than once when I accidentally edited a file rather than copying it.)

I can probably give you a copy of mine.

Careful, it's probably not okay to be suggesting this... wouldn't be surprised if a moderator jumps on this thread.  Generally not an okay thing to be exchanging game assets via any channel other than downloading from the purchase site.

I don't think it's just a config file any more....

@AlextheBodacious I think your best bet is going to be to move your current game folder somewhere safe, then download a new, clean install from wherever you first bought the game. Then just copy over the missing Engines file from the new folder into your broken one. Then just make a backup of the whole thing, just in case you get the urge to go all 'deletey' again :)

This actually works! Thanks! Now to figure out how to mark this as answered...

Moderator jumping on thread: sharing parts of the game is a problem for legal reasons which, to be honest, I do not understand. You know lawyers. (No offense to any lawyers in the current company, I hope.) Anyway, download a fresh install and copy over your save and craft files.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
