Delta II Launch Vehicle, simple and useful

Hi fellow kerbonauts!!

 

I just want to show you my piece of work. A simple Delta II type rocket for launching satellites into orbit. I tried to design it as real as possible.

 

It archieved orbit with 2200 deltaV left in the upper stage left. On top just a small test satellite of 0.7 tons.

 

Any thoughts on how to improve it?

This is what I was thinking. It can already put that payload into orbit around Mun, Minmus, Duna, or Ike. Maybe even Eve if you weren't too picky about the orbit.

Seems like you might just want to tweak the number of boosters or the amount of fuel it's carrying to better match the payload if you're worried about efficiency. If the vehicle has enough thrust, you could look at heavier payloads too.

Having made a Delta II 7295 (Pathfinder) I wonder which one this is. It seems to have 6 boosters, I am not sure but I don't think any Delta II had 6, they had 3, 4 or 9 (6 fire at launch, 3 when the first 6 end) you might want to research which version it is, heres the wikipedia entry

No one in particular. I just made a rocket with most aspects of the Delta II because it's an effective design but not all because I wanted also functionality amd simplicity. I'll still working on improvement though. This is just the start. 

Did you made your version in stock?

Yes, 67% scale, it can only just get the Pathfinder to Duna, it's part of my Dunatian Pack on curse

What is the payload size it can carry to LKO?

So I improved my Delta II and called it the 9000-S because it has 9 boosters. 6 of them are fueling the other 3 so they last longer. It can reach an orbit of 300x300 only by the first stage itself already so it is very powerful to launch a heavy load or a smaller load with an exceptional DeltaV capacity.

Better? Also in the light of reality?

You can't go wrong with a sleek and simple design, a philosophy I seem to fail at. I tend to over-engineer everything, probably because I'm Norwegian.

Are you talking about the colour? it's just KerbPaint and does not affect the craft in stock, you can only see it if you have KerbPaint installed otherwise the game ignores it, it adds no benefit apart from aesthetically.

You can see it here, it's not updated for 1.1.2 yet, so i don't know if it will fly well anymore

@Ferdoni Very nice little launcher. I really like small efficient and useful craft.

The fairings look a little too hot You may reduce the TWR for a literally cooler ascent profile.
