Frequent breaking of game

Recommended Posts

I have this issue nowadays where after playing Ksp for less than an hour, the game would start to break. Examples consist of frozen game after trying to launch vessel and glitches within the VAB where the green highlight would stuff up, every time I finish playing even if it didn't crash, after verifying my game integrity it would say a file or 2 is broken.

I have this screenshot of a recent glitch within VAB which glitches when i hovered my mouse over one of the engines in the stages section...

Here is my Temporary KSP.Log if that is all you need to help me... there are more issues than above but a problem should be visible through log, but IDK

Thanks for help in advance

Looks like an issue of Graficcard (overclocked/bad/overheating ram/gpu).

Is your savegame also sorrupted?

System Specs

OS X El Captain (version 10.11.3)

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)

Processor 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

I checked the recommended specs and my computer fits, the graphics card recommended is 1 GB and I have 1.536 GB

The laptop does heat up a little, but it shouldn't be causing such issues. My saves are fine I believe

Maybe your hard disk is dying?

The iMac I use at work had similar issues (not with KSP obviously) when using memory intensive programs (Photoshop mainly) and it turned out to be the hard disk. Which I would never have guessed on the fact that it manifested itself as a "screen problem."

EDIT: And yes, it would only show up after a while when the computer heated up, and go away when we let it cool off. I was never sure if it was a manifestation of the hard disk heating up disproportionally and affecting the graphics card or that it really came from the HD whose problems became visible after heating up, but replacing the HD did fix the problem.

Not saying you should replace your HD; only that the source of the problem can be very surprising!

No, this is a SSD mac, not a HDD. Though HDD requires the heat to work well but SSD doesn't need heat, so i see where that goes, but it can't be because after closing the game I fix the 1 file that i verify off steam and start the game again and it works for another hour, so it isn't broken, as the damage doesn't just 'reset'

4GB of memory and integrated graphics card (which uses the same memory). People are having trouble with modded KSP memory usage even when they have a whole 4GB of memory free for just the KSP and you are running operating system and such with just that 4GB.

So my bet would be memory running out. I do assume you can follow memory usage somehow on macs as well.

so what should i do that will fix this? less mods? i have grown attached to all of them and i am already backing off with a few (30 mods) i would like to have 40 but thats a shame... so is it a graphics card issue or memory from RAM, if so ill just start using my brothers laptop which has 16 G ram

You could try to just copy the KSP to another computer and see if it's stable there. If it's anything hardware related you should be fine then. If you get problems even after that then it'd be a broken installation of the game or mods.

You could try reducing the texture quality by one (or more) notches.  This should significantly reduce the memory used and may permit you to run for longer.  However, as others have implied, your machine is not really up to running a heavily modded KSP so using your brother's laptop would almost certainly be a better idea.  If the other machine is also a Mac then you may find that you have serious issues on there too as some Macs, even with lots of memory, get horribly unstable when KSP's memory usage gets over a couple of GB.  If it is a Windows machine then you will probably find that it uses significantly more memory anyway and may crash due to exceeding the 4GB limit of 32bit KSP.  Then you would need to follow the standard advice for memory reduction on Windows (use OpenGL, use DX11, reduce texture quality, use the 64bit hack etc.) or just wait until KSP 1.1 comes out which will include a supported 64bit Windows version that has a significantly higher memory limit.
