It's pretty obvious which side of it is correct, the back side has the arrow.  It may get a revamp when all the other parts do anyway though.

Revamp?  I've been hearing about these parts being revamped, but don't know where to find any info?

Are they redoing all of them?

It's uncertain.  They kinda hinted at the rocket parts being redone by PorkJet to better match the quality of the plane parts.  However, I'm not sure how confirmed that actually is.

I had problems with docking port orientation when I was first learning to play the game. I think it could be made more obvious with a written sign painted on the back indicating that it's the back. This would be in keeping with the style of the game.

As someone who only realised I'd got a standard docking port the wrong way round after trying to dock for 20 minutes wondering why the magnets weren't working (yes, really), I would agree that a more obvious indicator would be handy.  The Sr. is a bit less obvious than the others too.  Though I do check now every time I place one.

Certainly making it a bit more obvious would be nice.  I think we've all been bitten by this at least once (at least, I know I have).

If you're not averse to using a mod, there are more obvious indicators available:
