blackheart612
@kiwinanday It's a tank that I made, designed together with a friend's old model, this is modernized. So it's a little bit of a modern design. I believe the 1940/50s had carburettors instead of fuel injection. I made 2 more which were mostly based on my friend's design. This was mostly mine. His was old designs which was why I made that other V12 with aircraft configuration as it wasn't rare back then to have one (Just like Merlin and Meteor). blackheart612
@Murican_Jeb It's an unrelated engine. I made this for a tank. A tank that a friend and I designed. It happened to be capable of being a prop, so I gave it a model. You could say it is closer to the Merlin/Meteor. I also couldn't make any engines outside my time because it is really, really, painstakingly long to do all the details. I made that engine with bore/stroke in mind, I totally measured those and it has pistons, bottom parts and crankshaft inside. And there's the valves and cam/camshaft on the top side. I made this because we were really into making our own tank. Also, I may have already implied this but this isn't a mod. I was just kind of proud of it and I couldn't brag about it that much because not many people around me appreciate 3D Modeling.

blackheart612
@Murican_Jeb I'm not saying I can't add it to the mod. I was referring that I can't do it in such detail as I did with my own designs. Though, I am also not saying I can make it right away. I am following a strict roadmap right now but after I finish all the main plans, I'll be able to add randomly in different eras thereafter. I hope you understand. I'm saying that I love the suggestions. I just can't make them right now but when I really get the chance, I will. It's just hard to go about on a mod without focus

StevieC
okay that's one type of rotary but can you do the OTHER rotary (Wankel rotary) engine? …Really, people? Stop snickering, it's pronounced VAHN-kel
blackheart612
@StevieC Unfortunately, I remember Wankel Rotaries don't behave like this, they are covered and unseen. Even if they are seen, only the timing belts and cam wheels are going to be animated. (I also heard it was a very violent engine to the parts inside)
StevieC
In fact a Wankel engine is less violent to its parts than a reciprosaur. To boot: It has fewer moving parts, and because of the way it's designed, the rotor can be made of cast-iron with its housing being made of aluminum, Since aluminum has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion, that makes the Wankel engine, no matter how badly you overheat it, immune from seizing up. It'll still fail but that failure will not be catastrophic in nature. The other type of engine I'd like to see in this is a "Barrel" or "Axial" engine (in which the pistons move in cylinders oriented parallel to the driveshaft, like so: http://youtu.be/uJSLDq7MkhQ Edited July 21, 2016 by StevieC
blackheart612
@StevieC Not going to argue about that. I'm not great at it. Nevertheless, I feel like what makes an engine shine is its moving parts (inside) so even though I can make different types of engine, it wouldn't be as unique as Fokker DRI for example as it has a very unique visual to it. Even the Wankel will be thought as a normal engine by many at a glance even when it's running. Unlike a radial engine appearance which rotates when running. In any case, it's possible to make many types of engines but they would still look like normal ones without seeing the operation inside (which kind of makes me sad because it's a shame). StevieC
well, my thought behind the Wankel and the Axial engins is that their shapes present smaller frontal surface-area, and therefore means they generate less drag than other engines of comparable horsepower output. I'm not Saiyan, i'm just sayin'.
blackheart612
@StevieC It's true, people may not be able to tell the difference to the conventional engine quickly but it will have a bit of a different design. Hopefully I can make one in the future.
cy4n
The engines don't seem to work on Duna. Is this intentional?
blackheart612
@cy4n Haven't tested the engines on Duna. How does it not work? I'm not sure what the difference is if the engines are on Duna but probably intake air.

blackheart612
@cy4n How fast are you going? That would happen if you're going well over the speed limit. There is also the fact that you may be too high in the atmosphere. Edited July 21, 2016 by blackheart612
cy4n
I can't even get off the ground. EDIT 2: Nvm. Edited July 22, 2016 by Osmium
Wraith977
@cy4n I believe that's because Duna doesn't have an oxygen rich atmosphere, any air breathing engine will only work on planets with oxygen atmospheres like Kerbin and Laythe.
blackheart612
@cy4n I suspected as much but I tested anyway before saying this. Using Aeris 3A, engine could not combust indeed. I have never tried flying a conventional air breathing engine in Duna so I never knew but after this test, it's impossible. Not just this mod's engines. It MUST be turbofan turbo ramjet to be functional. Edited July 21, 2016 by blackheart612
Guest
I got another idea for the mod (sorry if you are getting a headache from ideas) Can you add a Junkers Jumo 211 inverted V12 engine? (Yes, I know, another V12 engine ) It's an engine from the Ju-87 Stuka: This is a good drawing Wait what? What do you mean this is a image? cy4n
I was looking at the wrong numbers the first time. This \/ is your Atmosphere (x-axis) to Thrust (y-axis) curve, which at an atmosphere value of 0.06 has... *drumroll* NEGATIVE thrust! I give up. I'll just bring a refinery to Duna. Edited July 22, 2016 by Osmium
blackheart612
@cy4n 0.06 value in atmCurve is basically almost space. 1 is sea level (in Kerbin), it's not supposed to combust at near 0 pressure. Regardless, the engines function as designed in Kerbin. They aren't even designed to fly in other planets. So I don't see not combusting in Duna a problem. Edit: Well, Duna's atm @ 0m is 0.067. That's the point where you use oxidized engines already in Kerbin (More than 15km) or using a turbo ramjet. A couple of meters more and you'll have a different report to take home in career mode.
