Girder segments should be climbable

Ya know, I look at these things and I think why couldn't my Kerbals scurry on up that thing even easier than they do a flagpole?  For that matter, if they can shimmy up a flagpole with such ease, why not an I-beam?

I wonder if that's something that could be done with simple module manager config?

Hitting F multiple times in a row (and trying the technique multiple times in a row), a Kerbal can pretty much climb anything.

Like it literally doesn't work, or it's just really hard because they're so thin? I've not tried it with them in particular but have successfully climbed landing gear (pre 1.1.2 of course) after about 50 tries.

My guess is this would have to be a mod (although I hope someone could prove me wrong with a MM config). Looking at the ladder cfgs there is nothing indicative of being able to climb them. I can't quite remember, but are ladders only up and down movement, no side movement allowed? if so the girder meshes would have to be set up (in Unity I imagine) to have directional constraints like the ladders. A great idea though nonetheless, perhaps some industrious soul will take a stab at it

Nope, has to be a mod.  You have to add a ladder collider to the model.

mod it shall be.. and it is. Adds ladders to truss girder 1x and 3x pieces

I usually use the UbioWelding mod to permanently tack ladder segments on either side of my girder. Has the same effect, looks a bit better, has zero impact on part count.
