Flying like Iron Man

Oh god, keeping the center of gravity aligned with the center of thrust is going to be a nightmare. It would require enormous amounts of training.

Does training on the rings actually reflect the kind of force that Tony needs to hover? Something about that feels off from the force I would expect to experience from using an actual suit.

It can't be any harder than this. Though I'm guessing there's a gyroscope in the backpack for extra stability. I see no reason why the Iron Man wouldn't have one.

I don't know about that.

There's a big amount of video's around of Frank flying on that hoverboard. It would be very difficult to fake them all.
Then there're journalists that have witnessed the event(s).
Also, horizontal flight was already possible with similar "RC-jets" and that was some years ago. It's not crazy to think that the technology has advanced to allow vertical flight.

But time will tell if it's the real deal or not.

Or perhaps some clever thrust vectoring?

In some scenes of the movies Iron Man features in you can see airbrakes and small thrusters firing, presumably as a form of stability assist or maneuvering system...I assume that helps out quite a bit.
