I just got back from my trek. Itinerary 27, crew 719N2. Who was your ranger? Ours was a scout who used to be in our troop, his name was Scott. I'm guessing you did Baldy? We were in that field just under the summit eating lunch when it started hailing. We walked to Baldytown for the commissary, we should have canoed down. I'll post a thread all about my trek somewhere,  if I have time. BTW, I have my Triple Crown now,  Summit, Sea Base, Philmont.

PS

I do not want to see another peanut for at least a month. Or 2. Or 6. Or ever.

No Baldy, but we did summit Philips.

How was Phillips? I saw it from Baldy, and it looked pretty cool.

you can see everything from Baldy. :P

And since you had your poem/song, I've got mine.

Silver on the sage,
Starlit skies above,
Aspen-covered hills,
Country that I love.

Philmont, here's to thee,
Scouting Paradise,
Out in God's Country,
Tonight.

Wind on whispering pines,
Eagles soaring,
Purple mountains rise,
against an azure sky.

Philmont, here's to thee,
Scouting Paradise,
Out in God's Country,
Tonight.

A good hike is only possible if you take good food with you. Take a portable grill with you or roast meat or sausages on a campfire and eat lots and lots of sandwiches while walking. Don't forget to drink enough - a couple of bottles of good ol' plain water or lemonade should extinguish your thirst while hiking while when awakening at your campsite an Earl Grey tea never hurts.

This seems like a good idea, but Philmont gives you half-decent (and pretty lightweight) food, and sadly, no fires in the backcountry, as of July 31. It's so dry (even with daily cloudbursts) that they have a summerlong fire ban, however that may change. Sandwiches would have been nice, instead of the endless peanuts.

Pretty cool, it was a bit hard to find the summit coin, but we each put our foot around it when we did find it :)

I didn't see the Baldy coin, from what I heard, someone had taken it.

What are you gonna do with a metal coin? Carry extra weight around Philmont? Melt it down?

Personally, I enjoyed the food. There were some things I couldn't eat (dietary restrictions), but the substitutions were fine, too.

I never, ever, take bread hiking with me. Tortillas are lightweight, easier to carry, and work just as well, cause you can jam 'em in your pack wherever.

I know it was there in 2015, when I was there.
