So, if I had a time machine, I would go back 10,000-12,000 years or so and find out if and what really happened to spawn so many identical flood stories around the world.

12000 years ago there was the end of Ice Age when the ice cover in the Northern hemisphere had molten, and the ocean level has raised +150 m, flooding large territories occupied by the people.
(Not that they have sunk, of course, but probably feeled uncomfortable). Look at the depths map of Mediterranean Sea, especially around Greece, Italy and Levant.

Also you would consider the great draught ~5600 BC which has eliminated the civilisations of the first generation (google: Natufian, Çatalhöyük, Jarmo (Zagros)), causing them to migrate into Europe and create new settlements with local hunters/gatherers starting the European civilization.
Also, this draught has dried muggy and poisonous valleys of Egypt and Mesopotamia allowing people to rise there civilizations too — instead of deserted Israel-Syria-Turkey-Zagros region.

Yes, that would be interesting.  Also more recently, the Tunguska explosion in 1908.... although I'd want to be a few miles away I think.  :0.0:

Maybe the Tunguska explosion was caused by a time machine!

I have pondered this question for too long...and now I can share what generously over-thinking a simple question since my earliest abilities to ponder have brought forth

I would push my luck with as many things as possible and when I push them too far, just go back in time and not say/do what went too far.

otherwise I'm pretty sure everything would go much better for myself and life would be much more enjoyable

If I had a Time Machine I would sleep in it, and always pull an all-nighter. Also maybe learn of close-future stuff. Like "No more waiting for videos you know will come out exactly at that day, just watch them right away!". Basically mundane stuff, because there's a huge chance that far future would disappoint me.

Also whenever there's a "What? I never said that!" or "You promised!" situation happening, I'd go into the past and record if it's true or not.
