KSP on steam

so I have a problem I have been playing KSP for well since before .24 but I have downloaded it from the main site and I don't have it on steam how do I get it on steam without buying it again?

Have you done a forum search? If yes, then did you find anything? If no:

There's an option on the ksp website to get a steam code. Be careful, though, since it prevents you from getting ksp on the site after you get it.

In general no. The option to transfer KSP Store licenses to Steam is only available for those who bought KSP before it originally came out on Steam, March 20th 2013. Note that if you do qualify for a transfer and choose to do it, the process is OPTIONAL and IRREVERSIBLE. If you transfer your purchase to Steam, you will no longer be able to download or update the game from the KSP Store. To move to Steam, log in to your KSP Store profile and you will find the button to start the process next to your download link. If you can’t see the button in your profile it means you purchased the game after it was on Steam and you are not eligible, no exceptions, please don’t insist.

You buy the game on steam or on the store, or on both places. You can't have both with a single purchase, but don't worry about it too much. The store copy, which you have, allows you to get previous versions which is nice.

If you want to launch from Steam, I think you can add your copy as a non-steam game.

Moved to Technical Support. The FAQ test that @stibbons helpfully posted should answer your question. 0.24 was apparently released sometime later, so unfortunately you can't transfer your purchase to Steam.
