ZooNamedGames
I'm fairly certain there's a Doctor Who thread out there in the great blue yonder that is the ocean of this forum, but I don't feel like necroposting on it when I could make a brand new thread entirely, especially since I have a lot to say! So here is the *NEW* Doctor Who Fan Thread! I feel I'm a moderately decent scholar on the subject for many reasons; one being I've been watching the new and old series since I was born, and even before then I heard the theme song as a fetus. I know the show like the back of my hand since I've been watching it since a child. Another reason is because I have the benefit of my father's experience of coming into the show at the right time during the 70s. He's met Tom Baker, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davidson and even knew Colin Baker somewhat familiarly. He met all of them in Doctor Who conventions when they were small gatherings rather than the thousands who would storm one now a days. The last reason is that I own a huge collection of the show's history, specifically VHS tapes of the old series. But don't let me be the only voice in the wilderness, I would love to meet someone wiser than me on the subject! To keep it short here is a spoiler of all the VHS tapes I own of the old series of Doctor Who (this does not include what I own on DVD or digital formats). Spoiler A ~4x6x3 block of VHS tapes that I own. *indicates a personal favorite ***childhood favorite William Hartnell: An Earthly Child The Time Meddler The War Machines The Gunfighters (sealed) The Aztecs The Web Planet The Sensorites The Reign of Terror (double VHS)(plus 3 bonus episodes staring Patrick Troughton) The Keys of Marinus (double VHS) The Edge of Destruction (double VHS)(plus Earthly Child and "Missing Years" video) Patrick Troughton: *The Tomb of the Cybermen (plus introduction by Director Morris Barry) The Mind Robber The Invasion The War Games (double VHS) The Seeds of Death The Ice Warrior (collectors edition) Jon Pertwee: The Mutants Spearhead from Space Invasion of the Mutants Carnival of Monsters Colony in Space Day of the Daleks The Silurians (double VHS) The Three Doctors Death to the Daleks *The Curse of Peladon *The Time Warrior The Ambassadors of Death (double VHS) Frontier in Space (double VHS) Tom Baker: Shada- the unfinished DW episode The Brain of Morbius *City of Death (co-written by Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy author, Douglas Adams) *The Hand of Fear *K9 and Company Horns of Nimon The Leisure Hive *The Creature from the Pit The Deadly Assasin ***Pyramid of Mars The Face of Evil ***Robots of Death Planet of Evil The Masque of Mandragora The Talons of Weng-Chiang *The Invasion of Time (double VHS) ***Revenge of the Cybermen Keeper of the Traken Meglos The Sunmakers The Seeds of Doom *Ark in Space Terror of the Zygons -E-Space Trilogy (triple VHS); Full Circle, State of Decay, Warriors' Gate Peter Davidson: Planet of Fire Warriors of the Deep (sealed) Enlightenment Terminus Castrovalva Mawdryn Undead *Time Flight ***The Five Doctors The Visitation / Black Orchid (double VHS) Kinda Snake dance ***Earthshock The Awakening / Frontios (double VHS) The Caves of Androzani Colin Baker: Attack of the Cybermen Revelation of the Daleks The Two Doctors The Twin Dilemma The Trail of the Timelord (triple VHS) Sylvester McCoy: Ghost Light The Greatest Show in the Galaxy Delta and the Bannermen Battlefield The Curse of Fenric The Daleks (The Chase / Remembrance of the Daleks) (double VHS) Specials: The Hartnell Years (narrated by Sylvester McCoy) The Troughton Years (narrated by Jon Pertwee) The Pertwee Years (narrated by himself) The Tom Baker Years (introduced by himself) (double VHS) Cybermen, The Early Years (narrated by Colin Baker) My childhood favorites were the ones I watched over and over and over; because of that, those boxes are in a bit worse condition Now it should be noted, that the terms for the 60s-80s version of Doctor Who is known as the old series, to continuation that beginning in 2005 is known as the new series. It's important to clarify which version you are referring to as Doctor Who has evolved over the 50 years it's been running. So what's your thoughts or experiences with this show? monophonic
And my family thinks I'm a total whovian nut... For having watched about half the new series, once. It's really the greatest series there is of course.
