Transfer Kerbal from on ship to another

I accidentally stranded Jebediah on Mun. I launched a rescue attempt which worked out better than I had hoped. Jeb is on the ladder of the rescue ship, right next to the hatch, but I can't get him to enter the new ship. What am I suppose to do at this point?

"Target Switching Locked." I moved Jeb back to his crashed CM but still can not transfer him to the MK2-2.

You have to get Jeb closer to the hatch on the pod and make sure there is an empty seat in the pod.

Yeah!!!! I had to do an "A" and quick "F" to grab the CM ladder. A couple of  "W's" got me close enough. And that did it. Thank you thank you thank you!

Congrats on saving Jeb!

You could also have used the jetpack. For Mun and Minmus landings, I personally don't bother with ladders anymore. I just fly my happy Kerbals to the hatch.

Also, EasyBoard allows you not to play the "hunt the exact position that jeb will stay in for less than 2 seconds to grab the hatch" game.

I do this exact thing.  In fact, I like to have my Kerbal go out exploring and then when I want to go home I have them fly back with the jetpack and then go straight for the hatch without ever setting down next to the lander.  I call it the "Valentina Kerman maneuver" because I first had her do it and I like roleplaying a bit of running history with my Kerbals.

You REALLY need to learn to use the jetpack. Next time you have a kerbal on EVA in space, press R.

Then, W,A,S,D for horizontal, Shift for up, Ctrl for down, Space - reorient to camera.

I don't even remember when I used a ladder the last time. Oh wait, I do. A laboratory on Kerbin. Boy was that a failure.

Anyway, you need a ladder on anything heavier than Duna. Otherwise, forget ladders and just jetpack everywhere.
