Kerbal anatomy and consistency

  1. 1. A question that really bugs me since i play KSP, how to suspect the Kerbal anatomy or consistency? - Kerbals appear to consist of...

    • ... flesh and bones, eh
      34
    • ... kind of fluff?
      11
    • ... titanium and teflon, yeah!
      10
    • ... jelly, sure:D
      11
    • ... vegetables.
      16
    • ... we should ask @geschosskopf, maybe?
      1
    • ... better ask @SQUAD...
      2
    • ... we`ll never know...
      10
    • ... what is Kerbals?
      0
    • ... other, see below my opinion:D

Possibly, but the Flying Spaghetti Monster most probably is not very similar to the Deep Space Kraken.

Someone call the FSM people, we might be relatives to them! :D

But what if the Kraken is really made of spaghetti???

Some were thinking they were frog like people akin to Kiff from Futurama.  I liked that idea, but now I think they are adorable cyborgs.  They have no cities, agriculture or reproduction that we can see.  They could just be self replicating machines that are simply programmed to learn and fly.  Thus the only structures on Kerbin are airfields and aerospace support structures.  This would also explain why they don't need to eat or excrete on long trips.

A problem with this idea is that Gene drinks coffee.  Perhaps this is some sort of hydraulic fluid replacement or something?

As I've said before, I consider Kerbal anatomy to be similar to that of Kif from Futurama.

basically, instead of bones he has a system of fluid filled bladders, and is very stretchy, bendy, and rather similar to Kerbals in physics.

(although I doubt Kerbals ever become a swarm of flies)

EDIT: it seems someone beat me too it... Although granted I think I was the first to propose the idea a while back, but still...

The problem is attitude.  Kerbals are dauntless and optimistic while Kiff is resigned to his position, passive and generally unambitious.  Kerbals and Zap Brannigan would get along well, I think.  They'd both have no reservations about going to full afterburner just to get out of their parking spots on the ramp.

Perhaps Kiff is the frustrated genius of Kerbal-frogs?

That's how your Kerbals act, but mine are actually rather serious and less 'MOAR BOOSTERS'-y

Kif and Kerbals could be like Chimpanzees and Bonobos. Even if Kif is atypical for his species, their general temperament and behavior could still be completely different to Kerbals despite their similar features.

Either way, they're both squishy green folks who enjoy space travel.

To be fair to the Kiff comparison, Kiff is in fact inseparable from Zap Brannigan despite Brannigan's demonstrated incompetence.  Perhaps Kiff does have a Kerbalish fascination with Brannigan's antics?  This, combined with Kiff's improved training created an inner conflict within Kiff where his Kerbal nature thinks "Full afterburner, Zap!" while his Doop Academy training makes him think better of these things.

As for serious, contemplative, Kerbals, do you imagine Jeb or Bob reading classified reports on their SIPR?  Do they look up, sip coffee and think  "We really need to get these goo canisters to Minmus before the Kerbish Alliance develops NERVA engines!"?  I suppose the lack of novel hairstyles on stock kerbals is indicative of some degree of seriousness amount them.

I have googled "Kif" from "Futurama" and wow, cool slapstick cartoon!!! Barely seen by people around me sadly... But "Kif" and the other chars are actually fun, there was this doc "Zoidberg" guy with that crablike nature, most bizarre... reminds me of crabs and lobsters. I love lobsters
"Kif" is somehow Kerbal, i agree, but not too much. Kerbals are way more... groovy:D

I'm a believer in the old philosophy that Kerbals are descended from plant matter, which would account for their green skin and ability to last long periods of time without sustenance. It is conceivable that they are a strange blend of both animal and plant systems, because they do eat snacks and therefore must have a system for digesting material that enters their bodies. The fact that they have eyes and tongues support this too.

Basically, we can't know for 100% sure unless we get a sample Kerbal to dissect.

Uncertainty principle of Kerbal anatomy: "The Kerbal inner physical state stays uncertain until an external observer looks inside".

P.S.
They are not full green. Mouths are red.
They have teeth. Plants usually don't have teeth.
Kerbals die if acceleration is too high. Plants usually don't.

Ah, but dissection is a valuable asset to furthering the knowledge of anatomy. People have been trying for centuries to get their hands on humans to practice on, and now we need Surgeon Simulator to get a Kerbal in there so we can see what's what!

Long ago an asteroid hit minmus and blasted a chunk of its creamy, pistachio green ice onto a collision course with kerbin. The fragment impacted near a sea coast. And melted, forming a small pond of complex fats, acids and various crystaline minerals in solution. Over the eons, random chance saw just the right combinations of these spark into what could be termed life. Lacking the ability to exert a physical presence, the pool of sentient green goop harvested the soil that thus far had cradled it. This material was first used to extrude structures that could float on the pool, but still be of the pool. The glop began to look around with its new senses, one of the first things it became aware of were the stars. So it constructed a mobile structure, and filled it with a tiny portion  of itself. The strange new bipedal objects that wetly clambered from the ooze that day were of the pool, but stood apart from the pool in mind and body. These new kerbals, clear sacks filled with gloppy green life stuff learned for themselves the wonder and joy of the skies, and have been trying to reach them ever since, always aware of the teeming hoard of sacks beneath the vab waiting to be filled with more goo.

Flesh and bone, of course. How similar to humans? That's the real question. And TBH, I don't think that matters much.

However, I do think that they are capable of sustaining higher G's than humans. Where 9 G's would cause a human to G-LOC, Kerbals can take it in stride, which would explain why they can take super hard turns while flying at supersonic speeds.

But the true horror lies in the fact that, upon death kerbals go "Poof!." It would seem that vivisection would be the only option for kerbal doctors.
