Pimp my rocket

Let's say space travel has become so common and cheap, the average Joe/Jane can just buy a spaceship. If you were to participate in an underground orbital obstacle course, how would you trick out your vintage 1986 Soyuz to make it 400% cooler while still maintaining performance?

It's usually John/Jane Doe rather than Joe/Jane, unless something has changed in the past month :D Also AFAIK you can't have a "1986 vintage soyuz" because they are all built to mostly get shrekt during reentry in less than a few years after production :sticktongue:

Back on topic, do you mean something in the future or like in the current times with the only difference being spaceflight being cheaper? Assuming it is in current times with this extra tweak, well then we couldn't do much about it. The Soyuz would still be the Soyuz it is. tho, if you don't mind about extreme burn times, you could pimp it up with an ION engine

As 1986 year Soyuz can be only an empty envelope from museum, anything you add to it, makes it 400% cooler than it was.

You don't need its heavy instrumental module, which can save several hundred kg. You can replace it with something many times smaller.
You can replace its docking  node with an androgynous one.
You can replace almost all antennas, as in any case they can't meet a compatible counterpart equipment.
You should replace solar panels with what they use in future (probably someting compact).
You must remember that Soyuz-TMA appeared only in 2002, so a 1986 version requires not very long-bodied crew.

They call this lithobraking, at that's too late to undertake something.
But idea of underground orbits is amusing...

It's not Doe, it's Gregory. As Joe/Jim, but Joe/Jane.

Why not, all you need is a vacuum tube circling the planet underground. It does not have to be perfectly circular since obstacle course was mentioned. To be honest though I thought the OP meant underground in the figurative sense. But racing around in an abandoned worldwide hyperloop network sounds exactly what an underground vintage space ship drifting scene should be all about.

Otherwise, dye/chemical dispensers to make your exhaust plumes glitter in all the colors of a rainbow.

I meant on the outside just like they did it in 'Pimp My Ride'.

Want to kill your battery? We got you covered! A TV in front of your docking port! A few smaller ones outside! Don't forget special engine-nozzle shaped ones when you need to thrust your way outta here or running from the space cops! Need a heatshield? Special ablative LCD screen at the back! And wheels attached to the hull because why the hell not?! They spin and also have TVs inside of them!

Actually forget the Soyuz-like capsule. Remember these old and dull heat tiles on ya shuttle? They are no more!

Oh and the RCS nozzles are balloon inflators now and you can do nothing about that.

Certainly. But the idea looks fine.

HD TV screens on everything.

Just all surfaces in the room like one HDTV of complicated shape. As in Cloud Atlas. So, electronic paper as common cover for every thing (walls, furniture),

On Soyuz they even weren't.

An idea: a spray can with ablator in a toolbox.
Also, no single-use heatshield as IRL, just a thicker layer of ablator.

I didn't know Corsair made spacecraft.

Trade it in for a '69 model LEM handcrafted from the original blueprints. Get yo'self a stripped down, tuned up, space racin', Moon landin', flying machine. Absolutely no pimping required.
