Is anyone doing things impressive?

I know I shouldn't be complaining or violating copy write laws, but has anyone been seeing this?

14 TON SSTO TO LAYTHE | Kerbal Space Program

3.7 Ton SSTO to Minmus | KSP

And other sorts of things. I haven't seen anyone do something like this since Turbo Pumped, which was 6 months ago! Please note that this is not me, but a youtube named Matchlight who's an animator.

SO, I want to know if there's any way to promote record braking possibilities, like lightest SSTO to orbit, or another "KSP: Let's go to all the planets!". I know it takes weeks or months to do these, but it will show the creativity of the public.

There's the Mission Reports forum. Quite a few impressive things going on there.

I made a Saturn Shuttle with the giant Titan SRBs. It works is the best part.

That's certainly impressive. If we could entice sending missions to Pluto in RSS, than that would be remarkable. Even if people tried.

Don't know where that is

That is that I like of this game... don´t have limits... you give the limits...

Some of the things that are doing some persons seem incredible for me... Because in the last moths I left the challenges section of the forum and I concentrate on the game that I wanted to make since years ago. Colonize all Kerbol system with a mod of LifeSupport.

For this I make this Ship

whYGk6O.png

37 seats, with Ore extractor and ISRU processing with 4800dv to drive several tourist between Minmus - Sun- Mun (*)... Because I am playing to unlock all the parts of the game so I need that money... Now I will start to build the permanent bases on Minmus and Mun to design the bases for the planets.

I already send drones for the plantes to find where I will drill for the resources.

I am not saying much about it because I didn't do "anything new" refinements on the last 3 versions of the game... but that is te point, you could find in this game persons that find how challenge themselves... and usually they made incredible things.

When I saw a grand tour on Jetpack I know that anything could be done on this game. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD1_LXvcaIM )

Spoiler

To arrive to the ship and come back I  made several SSTO... I am not good making those but I like my "Rescue SSTO" I was trying to make a very simple robotic SSTO to take several drifters on a single trip (up to 6 in low orbit)

Currently working on module testing phase for a escape kerbin colonise laythe scenario using civilian population, ISRU, and EL, life support (and other mods but those are main four) so once mothership is made and leaves kerbin orbit not allowed to use KSC launchpad/Runway outside of "simulations" to test new designs.

Currently working on  the laythe to orbit to laythe reusable shuttles/transports as each designed to carry different supply type (EL rocketparts, fuel, LS, kerbals, mining) to and from the space station (mothership core module) without refuling at station if possible

If this is where we're sharing our projects, we're doing great! I guess everyone is very talented! I had low expectations in this, but this is great!

I'm currently working on the lightest SSTO to Gilly, with a targeted weight of under 6 tons. Not the greatest project, but it's something I can do. Than again, I'm not the best pilot, nor an aeronautics engineer.

Thanks Geschosskopf for the link

If you're looking for videos:

All have been active in the past two weeks.

I have an ongoing mission to get the science from all biomes of Jool's moons.  In a 700 ton single stage to anywhere self refueling space carrier with 25 Kerbals on board...  but if you were looking for a video I'm not your guy.

I'd just like to point out that "got to the Mun" is already a pretty impressive thing; quite a few people never even manage to get to that stage. If you've gotten there, congratulate yourself, as you've accomplished one of the harder tasks in gaming, one that requires a non-trivial understanding of orbital mechanics and rocketry. Possibly one acquired through explosions, tipped landers, flipped launch vehicles, forgotten parachutes, forgotten antennae, forgotten batteries, forgotten solar panels, etc, but still more than most can claim*.

*Every last one of these has happened to me.

As to impressive things; Maccollo has some videos about absurd stunts in RSS with stock parts only. On my end... probably the most impressive thing so far is the ISRU operation I have going on the Mun; the 6.4x scale means I had to resort to nukes to be able to haul up a practical quantity of fuel*, meaning almost ludicrously large transport vehicles given the density or lack thereof of liquid hydrogen. It works, though; I just recently got my first haul of ~150,000 liters back up to the station.

*6.4x Mun isn't quite as bad as stock Tylo, but it isn't too far from stock Tylo either.

I'm preparing for something huge. With two planet packs (Outer Planets and Xen's Planet Collection) and a lot of parts mods (and I'm only waiting for the official OPM 1.2.x update before I can get started), I'm going to create an enormous exploration program over the course of quite a long time (I'm happy to continue in 1.2.x even when 1.3 is released because I want to finish my plans). All science will be gathered, there will be bases in most biomes and flags in all of them (or floating markers in ocean biomes), and a vast armada of starships will fill the skies of the Kerbol system by the time I'm done. At least, that's the intention, and I expect I'll be able to achieve it over time (unless the game becomes corrupted somehow).

I've spent all of my in-game time since the release of 1.2 so far designing vehicles. I've grown tired of my old infrastructure and wanted to fully redesign, so I've been doing that. I currently have some very configurable launch vehicles for efficiently launching any payload of up to 140 tonnes to LKO so far - and this should eventually extend to over 5000 tonnes thanks to SpaceY's new 10m parts. I also have a large number of crew transports and uncrewed cargo vessels, as well as some non-atmospheric landing vehicles that I'll be using. I've also been working on some new interplanetary transport vehicles so that I can achieve the ultimate goal of thoroughly exploring all 13 planetary systems. I still need to design quite a few things*, but I'll probably start the exploration series before they're all complete, since my early-game infrastructure is almost entirely finished.

*Things that still need designing include:

  • Heavy vacuum landing vehicles
  • Atmospheric landing vehicles
  • Heavy atmospheric ascent vehicles
  • Base modules and deployment systems
  • Rovers (and other vehicles designed for planetary transport)
  • Station modules for all tech tiers
  • Saraneth III, IV, V, and VI interplanetary transports (mid-game)
  • Saraneth freighter variants (uncrewed)
  • All Astarael-class transports (end-game)
  • Spaceplanes
  • Science probes and autonomous landers for all tech tiers
  • Evenstone infrastructure (specialized end-game tech for extensively exploring Eve)

EDIT: OPM updated whilst I was making this post. I'll be starting this exploration mission soon.

This is the first playthrough where I've seriously addressed asteroids. When the game first started I had a Class E that was on a collision course with Kerbin in 170 days or so. I took this as a challenge and my whole earlier career was focused on developing the tech and the processes to save Kerbin, It's been a really fun alternative to my normal path of just science mining the moons. Now that I'm good at asteroid capture I'm starting to explore ways to use them - mining fuel, stations, etc. I wish that the game treated asteroids as Biomes though. It takes just as much planning and work to get to an asteroid as it does a moon.

Sorry to nitpick, but those would be considered a SSTL and a SSTM respectively.

Yes, they would be considered those. I just wished how people addressed them.

I'm asking people to open up there imaginations and capabilities with no limits. Hazardish is a good example to follow.

If you ask for shameless self-promotion, i can point to the Duna Trek mission in my signature... there... THERE!!!

MASTERPIECE! MAGNIFICO!

This is all great, but I don't want this topic to become one of those What did you do in KSP Today? topics. So I might bring this to a close.
