What defines a craft as "new"?

Recommended Posts

What entries in the save file define a craft as "new" for purpose of a contract?

Because, dammit.

It has a docking port, antenna, and can generate power. And every single last part is brand new, freshly manufactured on Gilly, and then painstakingly assembled by hand by the best engineer in my team. And sure as hell I'm going to dispute the customer's claim this station is not "new".

The game defines "new" as a craft launched after the contract was accepted. I don't think the contract system knows how to handle construction mods. But because the game is imperfect (but still extremely awesome) if you feel that you've been cheated you can open the debug menu and complete the contract the "direct" way.

What @Ultimate Steve said. I've literally had satellites launched from the pad with that "new" thing checked, have it be unchecked upon reaching orbit. I sadly don't have the time to do the due diligence required to file a bug report with Squad or whatever mod may be causing it to occur. But I know it's happened on satellites that did nothing more than get staged to drop empty tanks and unused engines getting from the pad to their orbit.

So yeah, I cheat it and feel no shame.

In stock, each craft has a "creation time" stored with it in the savegame. That time is checked against the time you accepted the contract. When you dock several craft together, it updates the creation time of all the docked craft to match the oldest creation time.

So, build it new, and don't dock anything (except a Kerbal) unless you are absolutely certain that the craft you are docking is new and has never been docked to anything else before.

If you did all that in a stock game and it flakes out anyway -- post a savegame from the time of the launch and I'll see if I can reproduce it.

Unfortunately, I docked it to the station to refuel. I guess that's when it got "infected" with its creation time.
