The Westworld "hosts"... -Minor spoiler below-

Spoiler

(Before they become "conscious")

...are actually a good example of the closest we can get to AI. Artificial Intelligence is exactly that. It is Artificial (man-made) and designed to appear as though there is some sort of cognitive process that occurs during interaction with a human. In Westworld, we see the hosts have a sort of "call and response" programing. Where in, a human speaks to the host, and the host searches its protocol for an appropriate predetermined reply to the humans statement or inquiry; not unlike, Siri.

As of today, to my knowledge, no AI has truly displayed unsimulated consciousness that wasn't preprogramed by a human. Nor has any AI been able to display self-awareness. The commonly agreed upon test for self-awareness is, for example, marking an infants or primates face with lipstick and placing them in front of a mirror. If they recognize the mark is there and is foreign, they are considered self-aware.

Yeah well, i watched the first few minutes then quit because it is mainly fiction (movies, fantasy), no facts. Btw., just a few days ago i watched Metropolis, the b/w-movie the first scenes are from. So much for my thoughts on the video.

I suggest we define intelligence, sentience, consciousness and self-awareness on a supra-wikipedia level. And get an understanding of what the soft voiced speaker means by "human level". How do humans perceive, understand, what are the cognitive processes and can they be modeled into (very complex but still) algorithms ? Are there any pre- or early stages of cognitive processes ? How can they be identified ?

What is the actual state of AI in computer science ? Discussion from the 90s: Is a very good chess program AI or just a huge library with a sophisticated algorithm ? Is a car that finds its way without a driver intelligent ? On the other hand, is a driver holding a wheel and driving from a to b doing anything "intelligent" ?

He, who steps out of the window ?

When a human performs some task-oriented activity, it reproduces an algorithm, ifollows an "if-then"s logical sequence.
So, it acts like a robot, just with more fuzzy logic, no difference.
It uses its own neural network implementation, gathers signals (impressions) and makes decisions.
Equip a robot with enough compact and efficient hardware, and you will find no difference.
The same with speech.

So, "Turing test" is an unworkable idea, as it by definition presumes a logical sequence which in any case can be reproduced.

Arts look more perspective to distinguish, but only look.
As we can again see from this video, brainwaves can be manipulated without a delicate sensitive soul.

Imho, the key point is idle state.
We should not look at activities and slobber when a robot can tie its shoelaces and write poems.

We should look: what does the toster do when it stays alone.
Does it gets bothered? Is it searching ways to jollify itself?

I.e. does it perform some actions without logical motivation?

No, unlikely that is toster, who had downloaded a terabyte of bad pictures to mother's notebook.

P.S.
Now I know: 20 years later all music on the Earth will be being generated right in the earphones depending on the listener's preferences.
