part coding help?

Hi guys!

My friend has an idea for making a part that will generate electricity when it detects heat, like from a drill. My friend knows how to create the part and texture it, but neither of us know how to code :(. Can someone put a MM patch or something that will make the part generate electricity when it detects heat, and explain how to put it into KSP? (my friend uses steam, but I use the game from the main site)

Thanks!

I'm not aware that there is anyway to do this with an MM patch. You'd probably need to write a new part module in C# and compile a plugin. But I'd suggest that if you don't your friend that knows how to model would have no problem working out what could be done by taking a look at the part files. The settings are all pretty intuitive. You also have the wiki that explains all the settings. And the module manager guide. You might come up with some ideas that can be accomplished much more easily that you could make a part for.

But you might also get lucky and have someone offer to write a plug in for you.

I can help.

Basically, your friend is making a thermocouple.  Easy enough to do.

Pm me so I know what you want, I could probably get this done this evening if it isn't too complicated.

Actually, depending on what needs to be detected, it might be a bit more complicated. But I can still do it.

We are both new to ksp coding/modding, so the idea didn't get past the "part creates electricity as heat is generated". Not sure what else would be required for it. :(
