The Kerbin Rally World Kup

THIS CHALLENGE IS SHUT DOWN

Welcome to the Kerbin World Rally Kup!

The world of rover races seems rather overasaturated, but here we go anyway...

The KWRC is a new overland cup consisting of four long, multi-stage rallies. The first of these, the DuneStar, will begin on February 15, 2017. The kup will take you over 1/3 of Kerbin, and consist of many stages.

Scoring

The KWRC will be based not solely on time, but on craft design as well. The scoring system will be thus : On each stage of a rally, a competitor starts with 25 points. The entry with the most points after tallying wins.

1 - Mass : If your ship is under 5500 kilos, add 1 point for every 50kg less than 5.5 tons, plus the square root of your ship's mass rounded to the nearest whole number. If over 5500kg, do the same but subtract rather than add.\

2 - Time : For every 15 minutes under the specified time, add 10 pts. For every 1/2 hour over the time, subtract 10 pts.

NOTE : The time between sunset and sunrise is not counted for the sake of solar-powered ships. You are not allowed to drive at night.

Special Scoring:

Special Bonuses and Debuffs:

Every powered wheel more than 4 : -10pts

Using orbital radar (SCANSAT): -60ps

Every refuel while not within 10km of a flag: -300pts

Replacing one's craft: -1,750pts

No Jet Engines: +500pts (PER RALLY)

No Solar Panels: +120pts(PER RALLY)

Changing vehicles or adding parts using KIS while not within 500m of a stage flag: -750pts

Rules for Craft Submission

1 - Submit all craft in the Craft Submission thread linked below. No entries posted elsewhere will be considered valid.

2 - Include pictures of your ship, a download (DO NOT USE MEGA.NZ), and, preferably, specs (mass, fuel, engines, wheels, etc.)

3 - Provide evidence that your ship can complete a 50km overland journey of your choice (screenies or a sped-up video)

4 - Your craft cannot fly - "flight" meaning controlled, powered travel above the surface.

5 - Your craft must have at least one Kerbal

6 - No entry submissions after February 5 will be valid.

I'm Recruiting! Anyone willing to help me manage entries and point tallies, etc, just PM me and I'll give you a "KWRC Overseer" badge once I get an hour to waste in MS Paint.

I also need someone to plant flags at the end of each stage on my map (roughly). They'll get a "KWRC Manager" badge.

Credit to @Triop and his Kerbal Dakar challenge which inspired me to create this proper Dakar rally.

Still no responses to this thread? Weird.

It's super common for nearly identical challenges to get radically different responses. Traction in challenges is totally weird! My favorite challenge never really caught on, but the one I made just to be silly totally did. It's a thing! I hadn't jumped on this because it needs hyperedit or the like to get to the start line and the craft submission requires an already completed craft to be vetted and submitted, whereas I'd need to learn while going. Not a problem, just not for me.

Yeah, imgur formatting in this forum bit the bucket a few months ago. It sucks, because it was a really handy way to compile mission pics! You can still see old imgur galleries in the forum by clicking the little "IMGUR" icon on the top left of one of the broken frames.

Good luck with the challenge! I might give it a go if I get my jet rover working well on rough terrain, but the mounting piles of rover debris near KSC is suggesting otherwise :) .

No HyperEdit required, just a plane. Plus screenshots from the Dakar will do as proof of ability.
