I wanted to ask a question. I noted that the Pandora, Rhea, and Proteus capsules are not able to survive high altitude re-entry (for instance, from the Mun or Minmus directly back to Kerbin) the same way that stock capsules are. Is this intended behavior? I feel like if this had happened before recently, I would have noticed it.

Do you mean the Phoebe, Rhea, and Callisto, the orbital command pods? Those command pods are optimised for orbital operations, and sacrifice thermal resilience as a trade-off.

I'm a bit confused. Does Resurfaced apply as some kind of universal shader to all parts? Or do only parts specifically made with Resurfaced compatibility take advantage of it? I am just worried about existing vessels of mine looking bugged or something, regardless of Nertea's plans.

Resurfaced only applies to parts specifically configured for it. So installing it will not negatively affect parts not explicitly supporting Resurfaced.

Deferred is recommended but not required for Resurfaced. Deferred does a quick and dirty PBR conversion for parts using legacy shaders as PBR shaders are required for deferred rendering. This conversion that it does attempts to respect the original look of the part and Blackrack used a lot of trickery to make sure it looks decent to good in most cases (a difficult task!).

No. I don't. I know those sacrifice thermal resistance. I mean the two man 1.25m capsule and the four man 2.5m capsule.

I should also note that I am using the JNSQ planet pack - this may affect their behavior.

Well... I have almost zero interest in picking up other peoples' work and giving it a fresh coat of paint (I am vaguely interested in knowing what mods you're thinking about). Benjee needs no help updating endurance stuff and I really try to avoid working on replica mods at all. Just painting up other peoples' stuff is not really rewarding and I'm usually chasing some kind of unified gameplay with my things. If I were to start taking legacy mods, ripping them apart and making them fit my visions, I expect people wouldn't be happy.

That is a really good point. Thank you for breaking it down. I can definitely see the unified gameplay in your work. It has helped me as a player.

So, there's something that will probably be happening in the next set of NF updates. I will likely be moving all parts to a PBR workflow, which results in a far higher fidelity than the currently existing parts. This will introduce a hard dependency on Resurfaced, and a soft dependency on Deferred (because it won't look quite as good without that). This update would not be backwards compatible, as it requires reauthoring new textures and using new shaders that will not work in the older shading model. This wouldn't break crafts, but would not work well without the new dependencies. The existing mods in their current versions would still exist but any new development will only happen in the new workflow.

Thoughts welcome.

Here's some examples of how parts look in that context.

Not gonna lie, I was unsure of this at first, but after watching the demonstration videos in the Restock PBR thread I'm absolutely sold now. Cannot wait to make proper shiny-metal Apollo-style capsules and Atlas-style boosters with Restock/Near Future parts.

This makes perfect sense, but now I'm curious: will the other "Nertea-verse" mods (CryoEngines, CryoTanks, FFT, Heat Control, Kerbal Atomics, Mark IV Spaceplane, Space Dust, SSPxR, System Heat, etc.) also be receiving PBR recolor support, or only Restock and Near Future?

It's you know, an incredible amount of work, but yes.

Yeah I can't effectively support non-stock scales.

will there ever be parts like the neried and tethys again? I loved using those capsules as landers because of the extra engines, didn't even know it was based on spacex

Yes. First priority after RestockPBR.
