I really hope so Since they aren't on a leash like NASA, I hope they'll be able to pull it off. We shall see.

CatastrophicFailure
So this dude’s a billionaire, right? I wonder if they’re announcing some big financial thing, too, like he’ll fun (a big part of) the whole thing if he gets the first ride, or something like that. I wouldn't go that far. The magnitude would really depend on timelines, IMO. If they are "aspirational," then it's little different than IAC talks. If they have some real milestones to hit... I would say the 2016 IAC was more like that, since it was the closest thing to an announcement of plans for manned travel to the moon and mars. Although many people already knew that that was SpaceX's plan, so there's nothing which really can compare. Also, will that be a hexaweb? Ultimate Steve
Anyone have a non-YouTube stream mirror by any chance? It's that time of year, I'll be asking this... I'm not doing much at play practice just yet, but given my luck we'll start rehearsing my part exactly at 8.

No, it's only just now 9:00, which is when it was supposed to start. And this probably won't be the last time they're a bit late

Spaceception
Speculation: Since SpaceX said that they'll also be saying why they're doing this mission, do you think it may have something to do with incremental tests of the BFR to do more and more impressive things (simplified version), before they head to Mars? Starting!!!
