Search for the Kraken! [What even is?]

I've heard a lot about this strange bug, apparently it breaks ships that dare travel too fast and takes over the controls.

Well all I have to say is... Wut? How fast are you guys going?

I have never encountered the space kraken, so I launched a mission to find it.

Using 4 probekit RTG's godmodded into negative consumption engines, I have launched a mission to get as fast as possible before the space Kraken takes over.

Well... 280'000m/s and the Relativity is still flying straight, and accelerating.

It's not tied to speed. It seems to be tied to going very fast AND curving very sharply (eg, at perihelion around the sun, or, in my case, a low orbit around a gas giant)

Still, the Kraken was shot and killed for 0.17, so it's a moot point anyway.

Congrats on going 175 miles per second and counting, while the Kraken is far behind, going at 9001 m/s, not miles/second btw

And I think 0.3% of the speed of light!(300,000,000m/s)

Start watching at 2:18.

My Kraken encounter happened on the Mun while trying to load kerbals onto a ship. One fell off, hit the ground and the game crashed. When I logged back in the ship I had landed on the mun was flying away in space in pieces and all the kerbals who were loaded on the ladder were flying in random directions. I only managed to save one.

I won't let my guard down. Either Kraken Reborn or Son of Kraken will show its face down the road. Enjoy your peace while it lasts, kerbonauts!

Rofl, Son of Kraken will be born.... probably is already starting to lurk. reminds me of Son of Beast. Great ride, i remember going on it when i was little.

If you really want to meet the Kraken *shudders with fear* then make your orbiter craft radially complex ie have stacks outside the main stack @3x symmetry or more. The single stack ships are much less affected by it. Then go into Kerbol orbit some distance from Kerbin about two or three times its SOI radius and then try to get back to Kerbin ie try switching ASAS off and manoevuring the craft with non-prograde burns. Personally I have never been entirely convinced about the speed issue as you can encounter it in low Kerbin and even very low Münar orbit.

the krakens easy to find. Go to parts and edit a cfg of a winglet, then adjust the lift to like 500 or above. put like 4 of the winglets on any of your ships. WHat happens next? fly that thing and not a sec goes by till the kraken has a hold of you... ripping your ship to shreads and prolly ending up millions of miles away from ksp. can also adjust the speed in the cfg for an engine. i remember on 0.15 it was just above 1500 when the kraken appeared. not sure about 0.16.0.

and also nova is right (obviously lol) but to back up his words, its not the speed you get to. Im pretty sure its the speed of the acceleration. i really dont know about the whole curving sharply thing, but i do know that whenever i excel fast it happens. if you try the demo try putting a motor at 3000 and see if you dont see it.

The effect is magnified the larger the craft, which is why with the new large parts some have noticed it in low Kerbin orbit. If you tried using a larger or more complex craft, you'd have found it already, I'd wager.

Well then. If ol' Mark "One" Pod got a memorial, at the very least the Kraken deserves to have it's head (or whatever a kraken's equivalent) mounted on a plaque. Maybe on the side of the VAB?

I just got assaulted by the Kraken while training for interplanetary missions. Even while I was still in Kerbin's SOI and quite close to the planet (less than 300 km), the ship started to furiously and randomly spin around, making it difficult to go where I wanted to. Later on (some 20,000,000 km around Kerbol), it attacked my rocket again, which started to spin once more.

Hopefully the Krakensbane will play its part and keep it at bay when 0.17 is released. :D

I reckon because we don't actually know whats at the center of a gas giant IRL that the ingame gas giants should have krakens at the center, actual krakens, just a little easter egg of sorts

That sounds a bit hard to implement. Easter eggs in my opinion should be put into the finished game so that way the more important features can be finished and polished correctly. The last thing you want to do when making a game is rush it.

Thats not the Kraken we are talking about, though it was a bug. The Kraken is an unexplained wobble that simply can't be controlled. Read novas description etc...

What you saw/didn't see was Cthulhu.

Can you send an expidition to have the kerbals bring us back a picture(s)?

Stock parts can definitely meet the Kraken, I've done it. In 0.14, I had a rocket that would wobble around 4500 m/s while still very close to Kerbin. A good way to meet him to use winglets, that's where the Kraken sinks its claws.
