Do you have a download available for the V8 version, or shall I wait a few days to get the next development to play with? :)

Not yet, due to the longer crankshaft there's more twist, so it's able to run less rpm than the V4 version (something that often happens in real life as well). I want to solve the reliability issues first.

In the mean time, I also built this thing. The first turbo/electric hybrid ship engine, fully reversible, with variable marine propeller. After I've uploaded this one tonight/tomorrow, I'll continue work on the V8.

Take advantage of KSP's aero oddities and put the propeller between two V4's. That way twist on the crank is divided.

What if you mount a prop on both ends of the engine?

If you open all the cargo ramps, will it sink?

While the V8 isn't perfect, I've added it to the topic. I will improve both engines in the future.

A propeller in between would make the engine look a bit weird. Certainly not something you'd see in real life.

A propeller on both ends might work but I don't really feel it's worth the effort.

I haven't tried opening the cargo bays.

Opening cargo bays in the water actually increases their buoyancy, since it is calculated based on the size of the drag cube. It will go much slower, though.

This is the method I used for increasing/decreasing buoyancy on the fly for my submarine project.

Could you send me a pic of the bearings you use? I try to use bearings based on rcs balls, but to no avail... Also, it seems like the same bearing behaves differently on separate craft for me...

I'm afraid a picture wouldn't do you much good. The best thing you could do is download any craft with RCS ball bearings, download Collide -o- Scope and analyze the construction from every angle.
