Right now NASASpaceflight tips towards either a Block V KH-11 in a lower-inclination orbit, or a third stealthy, ASAT-hardened Misty. However, word in meatspace is that it’s got a really big emitter to go with the mirror - and that the scrubs are not accidental. What would be the purpose of an intentional scrub? Divert the attention of the public, and launch it somewhere else. Or probably lure some spies out of cover.

sh1pman
Soyuz scrubbed because of some winds? lol Edited December 18, 2018 by sh1pman
Ultimate Steve
But the GSLV was tomorrow originally, so if it doesn't get scrubbed we have 5 launches in 24 hours, all of which are on the same calendar date, in my time zone at least. MaverickSawyer
I think they were talking about high-altitude winds for the Soyuz scrub, not ground level, right?

Mad Rocket Scientist
Webcast is live. I hate that they play video from previous launches, it makes me think I missed the launch.

Racescort666
Bummer, I will be busy tomorrow during the launch window. "non-optional social event" that won't have tvs or laptops.

Reportedly a KH-11 with some sort of stealth gear in the form of a radar and light deflecting shield balloon they can swing into place to make the satellite essentially untrackable from the ground. Great for allowing you to shift the orbital parameters without being spotted, eliminating the biggest problem with recon satellites: regularity. Scotius
Wait... so it means there is stealth in space? Hmph. All the threads we went through discussing this very thing... we collectively came to conclusion there is no such thing... it was all a LIE!!! I don‘t think a one directional form of stealth like this shield provides, was ever called into question. Whats impossible is be stealthy from all angles or during maneuvers. They reportedly also used that reflector tech on something known only as the Prowler. http://satobs.org/seesat_ref/STS_38/Unknown_GEO_Object_2000-653A_-_90007_Identified_as_Prowler.pdf

The US has exactly that - a vast, multifaceted program for space-to-space reconnaissance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Based_Space_Surveillance http://www.thespacereview.com/article/2839/2 (skip a section) http://www.thespacereview.com/article/3277/1 The fearmongering about the Chinese on the dark side of the Moon suggests the future Space Force wants a lot more space surveillance capabilities on top of that.
