Land successfully in a canyon and celebrate. Eventually they have to go back and i relaunch. Turns out there was too little D-V. MaverickSawyer
Well, I finally did it. I landed on Duna. Okay, "landing" is kinda inaccurate, more of a "splat". Aaaaand the ascent stage doesn't have enough torque to tip upright, it's too heavy for the Kerbals aboard to try and tip it up... Yaaaaaaay. Now I get to earn the rescue tab on my salad bar. I hate to admit it, but I have a team of brave and daring Kerbalnauts stranded on Eve. I used too much fuel to slow the craft's descent to achieve orbit again, so I'm planning a rescue mission in that particular save. 4 hours ago, Izny said: Forgetting the parachute for the 40283th time... Or the solar panels, landing legs, antenna, and batteries... yeah. Newbie mistakes even us veteran players make. I have one game named "Sandbox Simulator," where I will design and test new craft designs. So, starting three years ago, most missions went reasonably smoothly once I decided to use it. Sometimes, I skip testing, and that's when things get wonky.

rfdesigner
Recent facepalm: having trouble getting a particular rocket into orbit (automated launch, edge of performance rocket have to trim the launch profile to the rocket), having finally figured it out, launched, got it to minmus, did my satellite releases, got my descent stage configured and just about to start the descent.. where's my kerbal?.. Nooooooooooooo!.. Also Duna mission, fully tested in Sandbox, hopping ISRU science trip.. launched for real, sent on way to Duna, do other Kerbin system missions while it makes it's way to Duna.. go back for mid course correction .... Noooooooooooooooo!... my Engineer has no experience, can't repack the chutes, and there's no lab to train him up!.. cue additional mission to send an Duna orbital lab.. with excess delta V so it can catch up!.. Doh!
Eclipse 32
it took me longer then i care to admit to figure out how to turn on LF/OX engines...
FTLparachute
Dear me, I've got loads... 1st rocket - ascent profile was to burn to 10km, then pivot immediately to perpendicular to the surface. Dunno why I went with this, especially since the combined 12MN of thrust made the rocket very plasma-heavy. Did somehow get a stable orbit occasionally, clearly the best kind of track record for rockets. 1st Mun Landing - used the same technique to get into orbit, then landed from a ballistic trajectory into the Mun Poles. And I put 16 separate parachutes onto the lander. Somehow, despite that and the complete lack of control from using the MEM, I managed to land... with 22m/s remaining. Jeb and the other guy were left stranded. Did attempt some rescues but could never get near them. Unfortunately, Console KSP then did it's thing and corrupted the file, so I can't go back and rescue them now Doing a Jool 0m return. Not that I didn't complete it, It was just a bad idea Once tried to use a Rhino Engine while testing Eve landers When attempting a single launch GT, tried to use a Whiplash as the 1st stage of a Laythe Lander, which then failed miserably. 1st Ike landing, was going for Duna but got impatient with the NERV so pivoted to Ike. Landed, but blew up the heat shield. This meant that, attempting to aerobrake at Kerbin, the lander disintegrated. and I couldn't save the crew. On my missions to Beyond Jool's outer bodies, I had the brilliant idea of copying over the same rocket for each, including the part where they were missing parachutes. To be fair though, It did lead to some interesting workarounds, but it was still quite dumb. My attempt at building a Concorde shuttle. You don't get to see it. I both can't and don't want to find the pictures.
umbra humanus Posted yesterday at 02:51 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:51 AM I was on an interplanetary mission, and was returning home. I was in fact on a collision course with Kerbin. I was going to make my course correction at the edge of Kerbin's SOI. I accidently pressed the wrong side of my encounter when autowarping to it, and burned up in Kerbin's atmosphere. Fizzlebop Smith Posted yesterday at 07:25 PM Share Posted yesterday at 07:25 PM So I have been playing a twisted Probes First playthrough.. my space company automates EVERYTHING they can. A few worlds first to after extensive UA adventures. I am only really doing probe and tourist missions that don't require a pilot. A particular probe lander was my primary science collector. The final compenet to return to kerbin was a single cargo containers / probe core with a storage module. Upon recovering my vessel from the first moho fly by had me realize I forgot to collect the science Jr data before jettisoning it. Did I mention I don't really time warp... that concurrent missions are designed around a maximum 24 hour warp window. Ugh. I got sad just remembering. That model now uses action groups for staging with a collection set up before staging.

In that same science save, I once tried to build a base using KIS but forgot both the screwdriver and the engineer who was supposed to use the screwdriver. I once had the same issue. Forget if it was a fuel cell or what but the original upgrade mission was missing the engineer and screw driver... the flow up personall mission went smoothly, but I still forgot the screwdriver.
