How do I insert an image into a post

Moving to Kerbal Network, since this is about the forum website rather than about KSP itself.

I would like to know how to do this without having to rely on a website like imgur

Can't.  The forum doesn't host images; that's not a thing.  The only way to insert an image is to host it on some third-party site (such as imgur) and then add the link so it shows up in-line.

That's what everyone on the forum does, and what everyone has always done.

Note that it doesn't have to be specifically imgur-- any website will do.  It's just that imgur happens to be by far the most popular on the forum, possibly because it's so convenient (doesn't require signing up for an account, literally takes only one mouse-click and a drag-drop to put an image there, takes only a couple of seconds).

May I ask, is there some particular reason why you don't like doing it that way?

It doesn't work am I doing it wrong?

You linked to the page.  That's not what you need.  You need to link to the image itself, i.e. it needs to be a URL that ends in a well-known image extension such as .jpg or .png.

How to get that:

  1. Go to the imgur page (e.g. the link you just pasted above) so you're looking at the image
  2. Right-click on the image and choose "Copy Image Location"
  3. Paste that into your forum post.

Like this:

lE2PAKT.jpg

^ see?  The actual URL that I pasted in order to insert that inline image was this:

https://i.imgur.com/lE2PAKT.jpg

ok thank you. I'm still a noob on the forums

No problem, that's what we're here for.  ;)

And you're far from the first person to ask this particular question.  It's not exactly something that leaps readily to the eye; your confusion is a common one!
