Precise resource amount in VAB/SPH

Recommended Posts

Hello, hype.03, and welcome to the KSP Forum!

While I imagine that there are mods that do this, I am not aware of any specifically.

Since both craft files and savegame files are encoded as human readable text. it's possible to manually edit these files with a simple text editor.  If you choose to do this, make sure you back up the files before you start.

Happy landings!

Are there any ways or mods that would allow me to precisely set the amount of resources a tank contains? I've been trying to find an answer but I've been unable to do so.

Echoing the above, welcome to the cozy family!  Anyway, in addition to file editing and the attendant ModuleManager patches, I have a couple of possibilities for you:

If you want to specify the capacity of the tank, as in the maximum amount it can contain, you can set that using Configurable Containers, though I understand that it does not yet work in KSP version 1.6.  A mod that is updated, but which requires a bit of background coding, is Interstellar Fuel Switch.

If you want to specify the current amount of a resource present in the tank, then the best I can offer is kOS, which requires you to write a script for resource transfer.  It needn't be complicated; you can do it with one line in the current version.  However, while you can specify the exact amount to transfer, I believe it requires you to have a destination.  That would require an empty tank of a capacity to contain at least the amount of resource of which you wish to rid yourself (or alternatively, the vessel starts empty and you transfer the amount you want from an external tank), so it would increase the complexity of the system.

I've tried using kOS. It indeed can help filling a tank to a certain amount but it's a little tedious (IMO) to use an external tank.

Anyways, If someone is interested, I kind of came up with an alternative method of doing this:
Building the craft, getting them to the launchpad, quick-saving and then editing the resources the tanks contain and substracting the money they cost (If in career mode). So yeah, something like what Mr. Starhawk suggested.

Also, sorry If I made some grammar mistakes. English isn't actually my native language.

You could have fooled me; your English is excellent.

You could also try using the new Fill It Up mod which lets you adjust resources in tanks.

We once had a saying on this forum:  'If you want to do something, there's a mod for that.'  At this point, I think it's fair to change it to, 'If you want a mod for something, there's a @linuxgurugamer for that.'

Anyway, here's a link to the Fill It Up mod:
