What should i use for ksp?

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking to buy ksp and download it on my current laptop but i am unable as it is windows 7. I've been thinking about buying something new and if these standards reach the standards to play ksp with no lag. Processor 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB

What does Windows 7 have to do with it?  KSP works just fine in Windows 7.

While that specific computer might not have the best KSP experience with only a 1.7ghz clock, it should be able to play stock game just fine.

If you'd like a wealth of advice on buying a new KSP-centric system, check out this thread.

If you want to build big complex craft and have lots of separate craft on screen at once you need a fast CPU. The one you quote will be ok I believe for basic gameplay with low part count craft but don’t be expecting to build complex craft or installing any of the beauty mods as the GPU you mentioned is also very weak.

Is it possible to change OS to at least Windows 8? Maybe even 10? You may be able to run the game then

Windows 7 is not the problem.  If the OS is the problem, it's something else, like being 32 bit and running out of memory, corruption, or an infection.

If he or she uses Windows 7 32bit like Geonovast guessed, then he or she could use the licence key to either install Windows 7 or 10 64bit.

If the hardware is 64 bit anyway.  If they're looking to "upgrade" to the specs they listed, I think it's safe to assume that they are not on a 64 bit system.

He btw and i had basically tried out this website checking if i am able to run ksp. It wasn't able to because i think it was the fan or something. I am currently using 32 bit mode windows 7 with 4GB RAM

There's your problem.  You're going to need something that's 64 bit with more RAM.

Knowing what country you're in, your buying options and your budget will help.  The computer specs you listed would certainly run KSP, although not very well as it's still pretty old hardware.

Stock (and light modding) survives on 4GB, but a 64b OS is required.

I've heard that you should be able to upgrade your OS to 64b using the same key as you currently have (but I haven't tried myself, stopped using Windows).

Only if you had one of those early transition computers with 64 bit hardware, but only a 32 bit OS.

You CANNOT install a 64 bit operating system onto 32 bit hardware.  Windows or otherwise.

What you said is true,  though.  Windows keys are architecture agnostic.  They couldn't care less if you're using a 32 bit or 64 bit image.  It's one of Windows' few redeeming attributes.

4 GB might do for stock KSP...ish.  KSP itself is getting pretty close to use 4 GB itself at initial startup, and we all know that has a tendency to increase as you play.  Given the specs that the OP is looking to upgrade, I'm going with a pretty safe bet that there's just absolutely no way KSP will run on their current hardware.  Even if it could be coaxed in to doing so, it would be essentially unplayable.
