Can someone recommend me a visual enhancement mod and how to install it?

Recommended Posts

The first one I would recommend is Scatterer.  It's just been updated for 1.7, and everything just looks better. Lots of clouds and much better water.

Get the latest version here, (https://github.com/LGhassen/Scatterer/releases) the file entitled Scatterer0.0540.zip

Unzip the file and you will see a folder that says Gamedata. Inside that is a folder called Scatterer.  Copy that folder and paste it into the GameData folder for KSP.   If you installed via Steam, your KSP folder will be in:

C/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Kerbal Space Program/GameData

If you installed from somewhere different, just locate your KSP folder and find the GameData inside it.

Other options are Stock Visual Enhancements and Stock Visual Terrain. I don't know if these are working in 1.7 or not.

@Klapauciusyour advice is solid. :) But it's important to note that scatterer doesn't add clouds, that's what EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements does. SVE is a config pack for EVE, and so is AVP, Spectra, etc. Since said mods are only configs, they'll work in nearly any KSP version.

As to the OP, Astronomers Visual Pack (the new one) and Spectra are my favorite visual mods for KSP as they are more eye-candyish and dramatic. If you're into more realistic and subtle stuff however, check out SVE. But by far one of the most beautiful packs is KSPRC. You will however have to do some modifications to get it working with the latest KSP version. I'd hate to self promote, but I'm also working on a visual pack, which you can check on my signature. You will also have to install the prerequisites or dependencies of those mods. You can find what mods to install on the mod page itself. Some other mods I'd recommend are

  • RealPlume improves the exhaust particles from engines.
  • Destruction Effects adds better particles when your ship gets damaged.
  • Kerbal Crash Systems dents your ship and makes it leak resources when you crash.
  • Collision FX adds sparks and dust when you crash into the ground.
  • KS3P adds post processing to KSP.
  • Chatterer adds those mission control sounds to the game.

There are many more great mods as well, but those are what I currently have.
