Colonies on Comets and Asteroids-how would it work

Hopefully we can do this and cheat the game

How is it cheating the game though?

Also it does seem like we would be able to as you can build colonies in space (space stations)

This. :)

Also asteroid and comet harvesting would be a valid way to get resources for your orbital colonies. It would be easier than hauling everything up from a planet's surface.

Colonies on comets and asteroids? what is this? Minecraft with floating blocks?! i dont think the game will allow us to build colonies on minor celestial bodies or randomly generated objects. :o

Probably not officially, but I can see someone doing it anyway.

Why wouldn't it? Even if asteroids work more or less like in KSP1, an asteroid colony is just an orbital base built around one. I would expect there are Klaw analogues to make it possible to latch on.

I think it would be a good idea. after all, colonies on asteroids could be useful for mining fuel. But a colony for one asteroid that like the current sizes right now wouldn't make sense. After all, if would be cool if you built a station docked to multiple asteroids to make direct refueling

There may be, there may not be a klaw analog in KSP2. Since we haven't seen anything attached to an asteroid, or asteroids in general, we can't say for certain.

By no means the klaw is necessary to build a orbital colony in a way to trap an asteroid within the structure.

Hence the statement, if not officially supported, someone will do it anyway.

Maybe it wouldn't be manned, but would be a probe  on the asteroid or comet, with a space station nearby to send manned missions to collect the ore. Although if the asteroid/comet is big enough, it could have a very *VERY* small colony on it

i wish i was but i chose this picture cause it looks so cool. do ya like it?

like danny 2462

Danny 2462 likes to break games, which I can see him trying to do, and more than likely doing so.

Do we need to start up the whole hunt for the Intercept Studios devs aliases again?

I thought they said all KSP parts were being moved over.

Most, they said that they where gonna bring most and then get rid of the ones that aren't that really useful.

Actualy we should just ask the devs to settle this

Nate already get's pinged a lot and I am trying to not contribute to it. But... I might I just don't know yet.

If we can build orbital shipyards why wouldn't we be able to build an orbital shipyard next to an asteroid?

I understand we can make a orbital station anywhere we are orbiting, but can we make a surface colony on a comet, asteroid, or any irregular body.

I mean we could, but it might limit the size of the ship or even summon the kraken.

Yeah seems like a good way to summon the Kraken

Yes you can, but eventually they will drift apart. You would have to grab it of trap it to keep them in place. If you're mining the asteroid and taking it to the station, eventually the constant impacts with start pushing them around.

I assume something like a simple CLAW module will suffice as it already does in KSP 1

Why would you make a surface colony on something that effectively has no gravity and a highly curved surface?

We don't yet know the faults in KSP 2's code yet so I don't think we have proper bearings on what will and won't summon a kraken
