Inadvertent Key Strike? (Can't see AN / DN - only get 'Warp To' Options)

Recommended Posts

Trying for my first interplanetary.  Got my ship into a not quite equatorial orbit.  Selected Duna as the target - but the Ascending/Descending nodes did not show up... instead I get a pair of double arrows at those points letting me Warp to AN/DN (there's also warp options on map view for AP/PE).

I'm thinking I inadvertently hit a key that overrides normal map icons?  Trying to line my current Kerbal orbit up so I can make a run.

Only mods are KAC and TWP.

-- Bonus question: is Precise Node or similar still a running mod / recommended?  (I saw it in an old video)

Quick partial answer before I fall into bed: the double arrow, warp to "buttons" are a feature of KAC. In my config they are near the AN / DN markers, but do not replace them. (I.e. I still see the AN / DN markers.) The only way I managed (in a quick test) to get rid of the AN / DN markers on my current orbit is to de-select the target.

Are you in equatorial orbit of Kerbin or Kerbol (the sun..)?  If you're in orbit of Kerbin, you won't see AN/DN until you're in solar orbit.  You need to leave Kerbin's SOI before you see the AN/DN markers for Duna.

However, if you create a maneuver node, and extend the maneuver into solar orbit, the dotted-lines of the projected orbit will show the projected An/DN.

F2 will hide/show orbital info, such as AN/DN, PE/AP.

JoeSchmuckatelli, I think I just accidentally reproduced what you described.

I am also using KAC (Kerbal Alarm Clock) and TWP (Transfer Window Planner).  Other than those two, no other mods.   Which OS are you?  I'm OSX(Mac), v1.10.1

I was in a solar orbit burning to Jool.  Like you, I noticed the AN/DN markers were gone.  The AP/PE markers were still there, and the green 'warp to AN/DN' flags were there too (although I'm not sure they were in the right place.)

I'm not sure what I did to trigger this yet, but I suspect KAC or TWP plays a role.  Leaning towards KAC, which I was actively using.   I did manage to get my AN/DN markers back, but again I'm not sure what exactly I did to accomplish that.   (I was kinda hitting keys at random..)

However, right before I got my AN/DN markers back, I had just clicked on the red 'X' to cancel the Maneuver Node- the red X that appears just to the right of the NavBall when a maneuver node is set.  Actually, I may have just clicked near it, because it didn't actually cancel the maneuver node.

Anyway, if you get that again, try cancelling your maneuver node(s).  I'll do some testing when I have time, to see if I can reproduce what you described reliably, and if it also occurs in a clean (unmodded) game or if it's only related to KAC or TWP.

Oh- one other thing:  At one point after somehow getting my AN/DN markers back, they appeared in an unusual place (I think).  They were way outside of my target orbit (Jool), and were only visible if I zoomed the map way out to show basically the entire Jool orbit.

KAC adds warp to AN/DN in map view. The reason you don’t see the target AN/DN for Duna while in Kerbin orbit is because the game can only show you AN/DN for an object in the same SOI- once in a solar orbit it will show you the AN/DN for Duna relative to your ship.

@18WattRe. AN/DN not showing with a node- it’s entirely possible that the next AN/DN is after entering the target’s SOI, and you either don’t have enough patches on the conics or the craft will be on a solar escape trajectory when it leaves the target’s SOI. If you’re targeting Jool and put a node after the last AN/DN before entering Jool’s SOI, then you probably won’t see another if you’re trying to get a prograde orbit as the gravity assist will hurl you right out of the solar system.

Good points.   However, my vessel was not on an intercept with another body (Jool),  nor did I yet have a maneuver node that reached an intercept.   I’ll screenshot if I can repro it.
