KSP mobile game/app

Recommended Posts

How do you think about this idea?

There are a few problems though:

1. Performance - this game needs high performance graphics which a phone has limitations

2. Screen size - Some phones are small and barely enough space to fit controls, commands, markers etc.

3. Storage - a game like this might take up a lot of memory IMO.

I don't see a mobile app coming soon, because of the amount of controls you need, it would be too much for the screen, but a tablet app would have the size maybe. This has been suggested before, though it would be a nice thing to have :) Just if it were to happen, it would not be for a while yet

There's no way the game can be dumbed down enough to work on a mobile platform and still be the same KSP.

Perhaps a new 'lite' version of the game could be created, but I really don't see it happening.

This is exactly what a lot of people said about Minecraft...

2. and 3. are irrelevant. on the PC, the game takes up like 1.67 GB, which many games take up more. It would be a miracle to get the game even running on such a small device in the foreseeable future, until then its not worth it thinking about screen real-estate management. I've heard talk about simply a VAB app, where you could design rockets and export them to your computer to use, but beyond that I think the phone department is a dead end.

perhaps if they released a version for windows 8, it would be able to run on the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, which has an impressive intel i5 processor. but on a tiny wittle apple A6 chip, uh no.

Instead of trying to re-create KSP on a mobile app (probably impossible)... someone could make a plug-in so that you had a "KSP Mission control lite" on a mobile/tablet.

THis might pass over useful parameters & info and allow you (limited) control of a craft, ability to switch craft etc... maybe using a wireframe 3D representation of it?

I'm sure that would not be beyond the current crop of smartphones, and means you could keep an eye on your sat mapping project while at school/work/other!

Joe

The computers at my school are able to run KSP and my s9+ has way more specs then they do the s8 may do as well and so does the iPhone 7 and up so it may be possible just controls are a issue

This thread is over 6 years old. Cell phone power was not what it is now.

Currently, games like PUBG come out, so the phones are quite strong, they can easily create KSP mobile version. A lot of the market is mobile, so it's a lot of money :-)

Look at how buggy and unstable KSP is and has been on its one platform (PC) (Forget about the Console editions) and add the fact that it still needs to use a lot of CPU and compile the 3D models and features for every single part, every time it starts up. You do not want a mobile KSP.

To anyone carrying the idea that Squad stands to profit from the mobile economy, look at this:

KSP has cost $40 at most in its entire lifespan. It regularly (almost too much so) dips down to $15. The DLC costs $15. Meanwhile many other games cost in the hundreds. If Squad really wanted to, they could do what's necessary to make the game more eye-catching in the Steam store previews and justifiably raise the base price... But at the same time, a lot of us like KSP's price tags right where they are or think even those are still too high.

Holy double-necro (originally 2012, necroed in 2015, and again in 2018) Jeb!

Last go around (2015), somebody mentioned "simple rockets".  That seems closer to Harvester's original idea (although the direction KSP eventually took was far superior) and is 2d and on mobile.
