Make A Real Life Rocket! (This challenge is now closed)

Recommended Posts

My next submission in the category "technically a rocket", my replica of Blue Flame, a rocket-powered car that set the land speed record in 1970. Powered by a Vector engine and with minimal fuel on board, my Blue Flame replica reaches about the same speed as the original (about 1015 km/h or 282 m/s), with sufficient runway remaining to come to a stop.

The real Blue Flame, for reference.

How does a 'Das Marsprojekt' mission sound?  It doesn't.. it's space!

Well anyways, this is the vonBraun mission using nukes and a big stack of hardware to Mars, and yes Venus (on the way home).

What's under the hood? Little bit of this and little bit of that..

If it's your first, I'd say it's a big one!

Thanks

Although I did the Saturn V a long time ago and it didn't work because I didn't know about advanced settings and that's why the
rocket got out of control when I flew it, other than that I don't think it worked. for me, since I don't know how to do the coupling
----------------------------
I have a question for you

Can I show another rocket?

if the answer is yes then i will do sls block 1

I already drew the plans in my notebook to be able to make the rocket

This construction is part of the SLS Block 1 rocket that I am making, I am already advancing the second stage of the rocket, but I will delay a little in the part of the solar panels When I finish this rocket I will be uploading it to the forum

I have a Proton, that should qualify

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Some more shots

Spoiler

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

First stage dropped

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Weird shadows here I was flying  pointed straight at the sun

Third stage igniting

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Although, since Das MarsProjekt made it, maybe I should polish up my take on the protons proposed big brother, the UR-700, probably the most Kerbal looking rocket ever designed (until the UR-900 anyway)

Hey! nice proton! in fact, better than mine! can't wait to see the UR900 moon rocket!

Thanks, and the wait is over.

It gets a bit silly, to make something of an appropriate scale, it ends up with far too much power in the lower stages, in the original configuration, orbit would be achieved shortly after the boosters separated, with the core stage having enough deltaV left on orbit for a TMI.

For the actual Mun mission, I flew with less than half fuel on the boosters, core  and third stage and swapped out the mainsails for skippers, still over powered.

Spoiler

Liftoff

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Booster separation

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Core stage dropped, trying to get a good shot of the boosters left me rather lower than normal here

4D3CBB866F57EDE9B075AF4E82ED4C41285555F9 (1920×1080)

LES and upper fairing jettisonned (so many krakens snuck into that fairing)

9E6C51A8DC4022326F9C64305DF3C7002C7DAAFA (1920×1080)

Third stage dropped, even more Krakens stowaway in the interstage fairing

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

To the Mun (once again pointing straight at the sun for this burn)

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Transfer stage dropped

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Capture and de-orbit

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

The LK 700 lander goes solo

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Landing gear

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Touchdown

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Ditching the Landing gear for Liftoff, I forgot to retract the antenna here so it popped off

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

I was quite pleasanly surprised by how well the landing gear actually worked, I have had bad experiences with this sort of thing before, an earlier test flight of a more basic version of the lander got me this lovely shot?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Certainly not the first to make an Atlas V, but I think they're rather fun to build in KSP and have it set up for various configurations.  Normally I do Atlas V-like, with booster options of 2, 4, or 6 because it keeps the COT in a good place, but this time tried to keep it closer to the real thing.

The Katless V!

KatlessV.png

Like the Atlas V, can be launched with 0-5 boosters, has one or two engines on the upper stage, and three fairing options.  Small, Large, and None.  The craft is set up so that all options are present when you load it, so you just remove what you don't need.  This keeps it as a single craft file, and you don't need to worry about staging (except when you add a payload, if it has stagables).  Also comes with a Karliner-ish capsule.

SLS block 1 and crew Orion. The only mod used was Waterfall (for the engine plumes). Done in version 1.12.

Edit: Quick note I did have Kerbal Konstructs installed and Tundra Space Center. That is why my space center has multiple launch pads and runways.
