So if I understand this correctly…

Whenever you do a ‘recover a Kerbal’ or ‘recover a Kerbal and their craft’ mission, the craft would randomly have something in its inventory in rare cases? To me that’s nothing more than free money, I usually bring the craft back anyway so adding something inside it is just more stuff that can be returned and refunded. There’s not much (in stock at least) that can fit inside an inventory slot of most crew parts and that’s particularly valuable or useful though so hard to see what the benefit would be for this.
