Chevepo: A Cheap Eve Mission

Chapter the First or something

Let's just state my goals before we start rocketing.

  1. I want to colonize Eve.
  2. I can only do this with Caveman parts NO
  3. There are no part limits, but all Kerbals I send to Eve must return, at least until we have a base.

We're going to do this in a specific order.

  1. Jiminy mcSteveBob manned Eve lander
  2. Pick up Jeb with a seperate ship, the SpongeBob SquarePants.
  3. Do this a few times.
  4. Build a modular base.

OK, into the rockets.

Jiminy mcSteveBob has one goal:

SURVIVE.

We are going to put Jeb on Eve and he will stay there until SpongeBob SquarePants and Val pick him up. We will do this a few times until we've landed all over Eve, then land a base. OK, now rocket pictures.

I doubt you actually need that much for a 1 kerbal EAV. Using the BG rotors, a plane can get up to a very high speed at 10km ASL, where a minimalistic rocket with 5-6 km/s can reach orbit. If you don't have BG, there is a 6km mountain somewhere, but it is like 25 degrees south of the equator.

Even without BG, maybe stock props? Because on Eve, propeller planes are super useful.

The external command seat will get you huge mass savings, but be sure to put it in a faring or service bay.

The point is not to make sense. The point is to do this in the most Kerbal method possible!

but yes, i will redesign it

how do you make stock props?

Basically, you have 2 vessels. One is the plane, and the other is the propeller. You build a "bearing" of some sort on the plane that holds the prop in place, and then have some withs on the propeller. To spin the propeller, slap a bunch of reaction wheels on the propeller and use roll trim to get them spinning. Stock props can have issues with timewarp or saving/loading, so it is best to have the prop decouple from the plane just before spin up, and use it only once.

An announcement

Due to some minor game issues, KSP is not working right, and the Chevepo ships won't load. Current game: Subnautica, to the EXTREME.
