Cannot Type More Than One Letter When Naming Vessel in VAB

Recommended Posts

You know how in the top of the screen in the VAB there is a textbox for naming your ship? When I click on it, I can only type one letter, subsequent letters do nothing.  When I click away, I can click back and change the letter, but thats it. I can't edit the description textbox either.  Its really annoying to remember which ship is which when they all have one letter names.

I get something similar, sometimes. As a workaround, you can use the Craft Manager mod (which you already have installed) to rename your one-letter craft files to something else.

For me, the problem is more when editing a vehicle description rather than the name. I type a few characters, the text changes, then the edit box suddenly ignores additional input. Clicking the text box again doesn't get it to start listening. Clearing input locks with the alt-f12 debug window sometimes clears up the problem. Leaving VAB and reentering works more often.

I suspect Craft Manager. I'm on Windows while you're on Mac but we are both using 1.12.3. CM hasn't been updated since KSP 1.9, is licensed as "no derivatives", and the mod owner reportedly hasn't responded when people asked to adopt it.

Consider changing from CM to Craft Organizer. It retains the rename functionality, adds the ability to put vessels into folders, and the only missing feature I noticed is KerbalX integration. Hopefully that fixes your problem but it's just a guess; the root cause of your problem could be something completely unrelated.

That's KSP not playing well with mods.  CM is out of date and is somewhat broken, I'd suggest you remove it.
