ive just gotten ksp cause its free on epic and ive wanted the game for years. i started a sience mode playthru and for some reason dont get sience from my launches at all. can anyone explain how sience actually works and how u get it consistently?

The game has a couple of modes. Science is not collected in all of them. Are you sure you selected the right kind of campaign?

Perhaps As suggested above, the Science system is quite complex. I suggest that you first experiment in Sandbox mode to see how rockets, VAB, EVA etc. work before attempting a Science game, this way you'll know how things work and you'll then be able to focus more on the Science system.

I remember way back in 2014 I thought I'd start in Sandbox mode but, was overwhelmed by the number of parts available.

I found it easier to start in Career and learn my way up.
