Name Your Children After Kerbals.

Well, someone named their child Dovahkiin.

"Honey, the baby's crying"

"I know, the cat pierced a hole through the ceiling"

Back on thread, I'm strongly against this fad of calling babies like videogame, movie or tv characters.

Heck, I'm even against the last decade's trend for italian families to give children english"ish" names.

They're usually people who never bothered learning a single word of english, and obviously can't even write foreign names properly at their register office.

I swear to Bill Nye, the next "Gionatan" or "Braian" or "Scèron" i hear...

Hmm, let's see, the smallest one would have to be Jeb then, he'll gleefully scream "catch me daddy" right as he jumps down the stairs. (He's three and basically a master lockpick, daredevil, fearless, and just plain scary sometimes.) ;)

I did it for some of my sims, http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/109329-I-named-my-Sims-after-the-kerbals?p=1711533#post1711533, but actuall real life kids seems like taking it a bit for.

But it will be interesting to check census data of people named Jebediah in several years time, to see if there was a notable effect.

Been there done that, almost. My so Isaac was born almost 18months ago. I suggested the name Isaac to my wife about 19 months ago as it is the long form of Ike. So their you have it my son is named after a moon in a video game!

Don't name your kid after a kerbal - name him after all of them: Kerman! I actually think that could pass as a slightly unusual but not entirely ridiculous forename.

Other than that (or of course if you want to have more than one), Jeb if it's a boy and Bob if it's a girl.</BlackAdderReference>

I need to work out which of them (if any) sound reasonable in Japanese. Which reminds me, I actually used to work with a Korean guy called Mun... :D

Which is why job applications should be handled with a measure of rigor similar to scientific double-blind testing. If I conduct a job interview, I want the person's voice distorted, their name blacked-out on the resume, and they should be behind frosted glass. All I want is their qualifications. Hell, make them converse with me over an instant messenger, so I could only potentially judge them based on their grammar, or lack of it (which would be a valuable indicator of whether or not they can write well, which is an important skill).

Except that is not how you will interact with them in the workplace after you employ them. If people are a pain in the butt at an interview then chances are they will be the same if you give them a job.

I think some of the autogen female names are actually kind of pretty, in a Kerbal sort of way. Wenrine, Elitrice, Natarina, Erithis, Julina. Don't know if I'd ever use them for an actual human child. Maybe as a middle name? I have a boring first name and interesting middle name in real life, and I kind of like it. Might reuse some of them for characters in other video games, though.

And of course there are some normal names in there (I'm currently driving around the Mun with a Shannon Kerman), where you could get away with a double reference to the Kerbal and the actual person they were named for, and still have an utterly normal-sounding name.

I have a Nicole in my stock career, not too bad.

I have an Allison in my career. That one is Male for some reason. I'm seriously considering gender-flipping him, and it would be the first time I've ever altered the persistent.sfs.
