Struts / Decoupler not separating vessel

2.5m decoupler separates Eve interplanetary stage and the Engine-plate that has to be used to store the inflatable heat-shield [since nothing is able to attach to the bottom of that now]... I fire this decoupler via staging and I *hear* the sound, but no separation occurs. I go into parts manager to re-trigger the action, but nothing.

If I reload a quick save (see quicksave_50.json) it usually is disconnected visually, but both halves are still acting 'as one' [SAS changing to prograde applies to both parts, for example].

Detach_Bug.json has been edited with the hope of 'deleting' the struts that connect both parts, but it appears that corrupted the save [FailedToLoad.png shows where THAT save gets stuck]

Has anyone determined a workaround for this?

  • Some way to edit the save file?
  • Anything else?

I have the same issue with both Decouplers and Separators.  But only in the case where I have a command pod on both sides.  I've already successfully decoupled booster stages with no issues.

I see the same symptoms as described above:

  • Visually, it looks like the separation worked as planned
  • But as far as the game goes, it is still looking at one ship
    • Both kerbals show in the cockpit camera view
    • No result from ']' and '['
    • All stages still show in the staging view
    • Tracking Station only shows one ship
  • Save and Load do not correct anything
  • Everything explodes after a short time warp

I have one more symptom:

  • I no longer have control of the vessel (with SAS or WASD)
  • Or, sometimes, I only have control of one of the two halves

This seems to be a consistent problem with engine plates AKA multi engine mounts. When my vehicle is on the launchpad, I can try the decoupler and it works as expected, but at some time shortly after taking off, the decoupler won't decouple. After launching the same vehicle a few dozen times, I was unable to determine what the trigger was for this glitch.

Here's the workaround I came up with. Use two decouplers. The first one may remain stuck to the engine plate, but the second should detach as expected.

@Poppa Wheelie Not sure if this will help you. In my case, there is no visible separation. In one case, save and load did fix the problem.
