is science just the same as it was in ksp 1?

looking at the latest post

it seems like science will be exactly the same as in ksp 1 with a tech tree and parts that give you science when you go to palces

the only difference that i noticed was that data is divided as either data or a sample that has to be returned to ksc but not much else. did i miss anything or what do yall think?

That gives me hopes that science will actually require time to perform.

Also modders dug out time constraints for science experiments.

data has a clock and a time next to it but samples dont. either you have to wait that long with the sample to get it or thats how long it takes to make a sample but why doesnt the samples  have timers then? but we cant know for sure.

maybe it decays or something?

Extrapolating from what we have so far, I'm going to guess that above everything else, it'll be worse.

Because a rock on the ground dosent take 5 minutes to pick up.

I feel like having a time on data but not samples is good and fixes a minor annoyance with kerbalisim

Spoiler

Samples are hard enough considering you have to return them.

The science gained should in my opinion be divided into two categories.
Category one: Direct science, science gained by single observations
Category two: continuously science: Science gained by continuously observation

Direct science
Every observation gets a X amount of science. When experiment is repeated (on different mission) in the same biom/locations you can get science again, but half the points. So every time you do it again it will be divided by two

continuously science
For science gained by continuously observation there is constantly (in the background) a bit science added and which slowly gets less after time

Also a difference between science which has direct effect on gameplay and science which has only effect on tech tree would be nice. Like mapping the surface of planets/moons, so the map view is more detailed. Or scan for resources (from orbit), so you know where to build colonies.

I do not know what I think about the tech tree. Seems to be made up about first getting science to explore everything in kerbins sphere of influence, later for close by planets and after that the outer planets (and after that of course interstellar). I do not think that approach is wrong. While in the science/career mode of KSP1 the tech tree was the main focus for completing it, for KSP2 that focus probably shifts to building colonies and finding resources. This will give way more challenges having, to launch stuff from colonies with each having its own challenge. This also gives opportunity for unique missions and shifts he focus away from the tech tree
