(Suggestion) Improvement of color palette and surface detail function

Recommended Posts

KSP2's color system is very useful for building ISAS rockets. However, some improvements are possible. First of all, when I want to separate the colors of the rocket and payload, or when I want to paint the battery in monochrome, I think, ``I wish I could save more colors.'' I think it would be nice to have a palette. To save colors. Color used. You can't paint a complex rocket in just two space agency theme colors.

The new feature I would like to propose is the "Surface Detail Function." Rocket surfaces vary. Default plastic toy-like SRB motor case. We sprayed insulation on Shuttle ET. Ariane 5 looks like a brick. Metal Starship and satellite MLI. I would like to be able to select these details individually for each part. (I'm sure many people would like to recreate the orange color of the shuttle even if it uses methane fuel.)

Please let me know your opinions as well!

My guy, you know you can

I think they mean (and I would like) to save that, plus a dozen other ones, and apply them easily to various parts around the craft without having to go back and re-set the colors each time.

There's a mod for this.

To add to this, what I'd like to see is the ability to input RGB and opacity values instead of trying to use sliders to get the right color.

Oooh thank you, I'm not in the "look for a mod" mindset yet for KSP2 as it's still new to me, though I already run the game through CKAN.

Yes I'd love to have all the common ways to pick color. In particular, yesterday I wanted the picker tool. I'd love to be able to say "the color in this area of this part, that's what I want."

Yeah, being able to freehand with a paintbrush would be nice.  Way outside the scope of the game, though.

No sorry I don't mean drawing. I mean the color picker tool.

Normally in paint programs, you can use it to pick the color of any pixel on the screen and it'd make the brush that color.

In this case, I'd like to be able to use it to click a part and the game to look at that part, at the section where I clicked it, and figure out what color paint is there.

So I click on a part I made orange a while ago, my color gets set to orange. I click some yellow paint on a texture of another part, it turns yellow.

Yes to all of this stuff!

  • Save color swatches into a palette
  • Define colors as RGB values rather than with the slider
  • Eyedropper for picking a color
  • Easier way to switch between apply to part/apply to craft

I think a palette is an excellent

I have a vague - possibly false - memory of this being mentioned as a planned feature some time ago.

Just being able to "pick" a colour you'd already used from a craft to reuse it would go a long way towards achieving the functionality of a palette.

I'm trying to stay away from mods in these bug-ridden times...

I don't blame you.  I'm simply pointing out that there is a mod that does what you are (kind of) asking about.  :D
