Newbie, Science mode Interplanetary Transfer HELP!!! (Duna Signal)

Recommended Posts

Yo Guys,

Only bought the game last week, never played the original but loving the steep learning curve.

Doing it in Science mode in KSP2, and attempting my first Inter Planetary trip to Duna to hopefully land and check the signal and Alien monument. Hopefully, I have enough power and my small extendable antenna will do the job. We'll find out I suppose using my trusted but frustrating approach of trial and error.  (Struggling to find good guides but at least I'm not skipping the hard yards).

Anyway, launched a ship with enough DV (although I may need to try again with a parachute) and now trying to establish a connection with Duna (struggling to I should say).  I've read about the 3pm 1:30pm 45% degree angle.  Got up to a 100k time warp and tried a manoeuvre and dragged it all over but not seeing a SOI with Duna.   PLEASE HELP THE LEARNING CURVE IS FLAT-LINING.

P.S. Any good guides or pointer links would be appreciated to get this fledging space corporation off the ground

Regards

Biggsy

Not sure if I'm allowed to post images as the URL doesn't seem to want to post the link.  I'll figure it out and try and post a picture.

Made a leap and transferred to Jools SOI with my probe core (Science mission) and have lost CommNet Connection despite having the correct 86gm Antenna.  I'm starting to think I need to start setting up a relay of some kind.  What am I setting myself up for? The next layer is unravelling.

I tried using Gemoo then adjusting the URL with Tinyurl didn't like the link.   Its obviously a skill issue on my part, I  should have stuck with that Computer Science course for my A Levels!

Enjoying testing the brain with this game though I have to admit, always felt like I had a basic grasp of physics despite not really being taught it.

If you are able to use Imgur, that seems to be a popular image sharing site, and works well for me.

The way the forums currently work, you can just copy/paste the link to the forum, and the image will be displayed automagically.

When using Imgur, I choose the link which is labeled 'Direct Link'.  That seems to work well.  Other image hosting sites will usually have a few different link types to choose from, you may need to experiment to find which of their links works with the KSP Forums.

I don't recall which one is the 86gm antenna.  However, out at Jool I usually like having the biggest relay sat antenna, the RA100.

The game does take into account line-of-sight issues.  So if a path to Kerbin is blocked by another CB (celestial body), the signal won't go through.

From Jool-Kerbin, there are a lot of possible obstructions-  Jool itself, any of Jool's moons, the sun, and very rarely Mun.  Although Mun occluding a signal from Jool should only happen for a few seconds I would think.

Also keep in mind there is a difference between direct antennas and relay antennas.  If you are hoping to set up a relay network, make sure you are using an antenna capable of being a relay.

@Biggsy, I forgot that you are playing KSP2.  I'm not sure if the Com-Net features are implemented yet or not in KSP2.  If the Com-Net isn't working right yet, you'll need an antenna capable of talking to Kerbin on each remote-controlled vessel (probe).

Or, if (as I suspect) the Com-Net isn't fully functional in the game yet, there should be a setting somewhere to disable it.  The setting will be called something like - Probes require signal for control. - Something like that.

Gotya, I've found the setting for "Probe require signal" and amended but probably need to restart launch as nothing changing post edit in settings

Hmm, that should have fixed it.  However, as the game is still in Early Access, and not sure if Com-Net features are implemented, all I can do is shrug my shoulders.  Good luck, and if able report back as to what you found, or how you made it work.  Other players might have the same problem, and will be interested in any solutions or workarounds you come up with.
