A possible fate for the KSP IP is that they spend a bit of money marketing it, perhaps, turning public opinion around, and then sell it for a higher price. Or they wait for the sting of the KSP2 fiasco to die down and sell it at a higher price. Or they sell it at a loss. Or not at all. Or it becomes public domain— so many possibilities.
