What did you do in KSP1 today?

Took Jeb to the Mun for the first time with my career save. Between the science, the strategies and the basic Mun contract I came back with about 1600 science all told - not bad for a single Mun mission. Unlocked nukes and started unlocking some spaceplane parts. Next up I've got two FinePrint aerial surveys to conduct and three satellite deployment missions, two around Mun and one around Kerbin. I'm thinking of recycling my Constipation XIII design from the Duna Apollo-style challenge for the sats; that was designed to put a probe around Kerbol so I should certainly hope it would have enough delta-V to do those wonky-looking sat missions. As for the surveys, well...after spending the science I had on spaceplane parts, I realized I had forgotten to unlock Landing - and didn't have enough science to do that. So I'm either going to be surveying with a VTOL or finding a quick way to make 30 science. Probably the latter - it occurs to me I haven't dropped a sci bomb on the launchpad or runway just yet...

It's been a funfest in LKO lately...

Sent up a remote rescue mission, in career mode, it ran out of batt power. Stuck in orbit.

got another ship back from minimus, able to get solar panels added to ships, great!

Sent one up to rescue another kerbal, got him and returned. then the fun began.

Sent up a 3 man (manned by two, to keep each other company) to the original ship, forgetting that it's unmanned.

Nudged it around a bit, and accidently staged, so now I have a 3 man capsule by the unmanned one man.

Sent up another 3 man, with one kerbal, to go get the others, got there, and it staged again darn it!

LKO is getting crowded, and the facepalms, oh the facepalms! :)

The solution to that is to mount your capsules with Sr. ports instead, if you have them available...

I just had one of the most amazing orbits I've ever seen. On my way to Mun I adjusted my orbit and then this happened:

After the intended Mun encounter I got a Minmus encounter. In itself not that special until you look a bit further. After Minmus, all the way around the orbit, there will be ANOTHER Mun encounter.

I have never seen that before.

Whiped my base nearly out :x

Building on site is awsome, but when you can build without control modules and some mods allow non standard root parts, KSP has the tendency to make those items go *poof* and everything that is linked to it

Thankfully it was being rebuild for less lag wich kinda worked, might have to redo something to reduce all the KAS parts though.

Landed a second Kerbal on Bop. Realised on approach that if I didn't thrust up sharpish I was going to hit that pitch-black mountain looming in my path, and even if I did thrust it would be a close thing. Cleared it by a mere 30 metres, still doing essentially orbital speeds. (Which admittedly aren't *that* fast on Bop.)

Yestarday I took a picture of Brother Ming:

Today. I'm planning on sending out my first, in a long time (like over a year), out of Kerbin's SOI probe. Destionation is a fly-by of Duna before heading nback to Kerbin laiden with science. Shortly after I'll send another probe to do a fly-by of Ike. Maybe I'll send later. Who knows. =^.^=

I tested a new SSTO design today. It's early experimental (design subject to change or be scrapped completely) and codenamed Lawndart... It's part of an effort to make a cheap abnormal looking and easily balanced payload delivery system for LKO.

Then I had a derp moment and forgot to throttle back after swapping to closed cycle and blew the engines up... I wanted to land on the large island Northeast-ish of KSC but lawndarts don't turn too well at 40km.

So I ended up setting it down in the ocean with minimal damage due to Aleny's good piloting skills. He was surprisingly cool about the whole ordeal.

And just to see if I could do it, I built a rescue vehicle for poor Aleny that relied on a fully powered VTOL landing. It uses RAPIERs but carries no oxidizer, because those seem to have better throttle response for VTOL.

Took the stock Aeris 3A design, swap out the jet engine for the turbojet. Proceed to tear across the landscape at >1600 m/s (getting reentry flame effects), and even managed to circumnavigate Kerbin (ran out of fuel about 7/8 of the way but coasted past the KSC. Landed in the ocean beyond; the plane didn't survive but the cockpit did).

Later attempted using it for a Fine Print mission that required me to search another continent. Worked pretty well, except that it's impossible to turn at top speed; had to throttle down before slowly turning, then throttling up as soon as I want to "lock" my heading.
