What did you do in KSP1 today?

Set up my block II remotetech constellation around kerbin: One relay in keostationary orbit above KSP, 4 relays in evenly spaced 85km x 1,900km elliptical orbits, and 2 interplanetary relays (equipped with the absurdly big dishes) in medium-high polar orbits at 90 degrees from each other. Plenty of dishes on everything, and while I won't quite have perfect coverage all the time (but it will be close!), the only stationkeeping I'll have to worry about is the single keostationary sat, which can wander pretty far before it loses sight of the KSC. It's more of a backup anyway; one or 2 of the 4 standard relays has a connection 99% of the time.

Made this, while listening to lectures all day- giving my brain a break. Kind of.

26ckTI2.png

It's the Jool(and-definitelly-not-really-Eve) mission supply ship.

It will launch probably sometime tomorrow. (The slides for the lecture I'm up to are really interesting, and KSP just crashed.)

Edit: Nope. Launched tonight, at 700+ parts, took the whole hour for few minutes of launch.

Today I apparently violated the universal laws of physics, and turned my entire Duna research mission into a subterranean archaeology dig.

-snip-

Forgive me, oh powerful and merciful lord of the kerbalverse!!!

Oh Noes! Not using KAS? Then you can pull of small struts and things as you please. Or any part really, if you edit the file.

Got the small probes into Mun and Minmus orbit. Added SRBs to the launch rocket to allow landing the probes on future missions.

Now testing the heavy probe lander and have placed one on orbit as I design the launcher needed for it to reach Mun and Minmus. Note how close the small booster landed on the Kerbal landing test. I had to use struts on this probe to keep the parachute from pulling off from the probe can.

Finally relaunched my Constellation missions to Duna. Still trying to figure out why the crew/habitat mission had absolutely no problems getting an intercept despite being 0.08 degrees off the phase angle, which the KRV/Cargo module (which was launched exactly at the phase angle and exactly at the ejection angle) required a major radial-out burn - I followed the directions Protractor gives to the letter. Had to cannibalize fuel from both modules as it turned out before I finally got an intercept. Probably will have to do more cannibalizing when that mission gets to Duna.

Made the apoapsis burn of a bi-elliptic transfer for a probe to heliosynchronous orbit. Periapsis burn will be in a little over 200 days.

Shot a probe to Dres (first time to Dres!!) and got it into a near-polar orbit (102 degrees). Debating what else I want to do with that probe; I might just want to leave that there. Similar note: I finally got a Sandstone Yoke probe-delivery system to Jool (second time to Jool! No better than the first!!). This one has mini probes attached, so my original "Jool orbit and atmospheric dive" mission is back on.

Well i spent last night setting up a backstory for a new mission. I constructed my kethane land train to go mine the last remaining fuel deposit on kerbin so Kerbal kind can reach for the stars.

Except I forgot to add a refinery module -.- Got to design one and drive it out to the land train and then its onto the pole!

Rescued my 2 man team from Duna orbit.

They did science there and ran out of fuel to get back to kerbin and land safe. Though they had enough fuel to get into Duna orbit and redock to interplanetary stage

So a refuelling ship was sent.

Docking and refueling:

So they made it to kerbin, with the misplacement of the landerlegs they had to get down in the ocean. They did it kerbal style:

Kerbals alive and science saved!

Thats why i love this game. Something goes not as planned and u got to figure out if and how u can deal with that. And if u succeed its so awesome!

Dropped a probe onto (or guess into would be more appropriate). What was interesting is that my altitude steadily decreased down to about 100 and the area directly below the probe went black. At some point below 100 altitude began increasing again and got up to somewhere around 300 when the probe finally exploded, or perhaps imploded. Got some good science out of it as I was continually grabbing data and transmitting during the descent.

Not sure why the altitude started to increase unless it had allowed me to pass through the planet. I also noticed that at some point Jool became somewhat transparent and I could see the moons that were on the other side.

Got back the Kerbals that were stranded in orbit on a dead (no fuel) craft, doing a dry run of building a base next to KSC, next step is to make a base on the Mun!

I built a crane/transport rover to collect the modules once they land...

Also got stuck in a very strange position!

REAL SIZE KERBIN FTW!!

...

So, my exams finally finished yesterday so, after some golf and coffee I sat down to have a day of pleasure in the rescaled real-size Kerbal Universe mod.

I infinite-fueled myself to the Moon.

B5KnNzG.png

I failed to launch a mapping satellite.

9jBmdNL.png

I designed my first unmanned Munar Lander.

ZepXtmN.png

*NOTICE the RCS thrusters because I disabled all my reaction wheels/torque in all command pods(including mods' ones).

I also "legitimately" visited Kerbol. Apparently it's quite big... And hot.

She is beautiful, Kerbin, isn't she?

So, what have you done today?

I launched, landed and populated my new Mun base; Munar One.

And then a seperate mission to populate and provide the kersplorers a method of getting home (lander in background)

It was too cold for the photo so everyone went inside after planting the flag.

I decided to delve into the big end of the Near Future mod and built a ship around the big VASIMR engine. The one that requires 10,000 electricity PER SECOND. Actually, it requires a bit more than that, so has to lug around about 32 tons of nuclear reactors (not mere RTGs) to operate at all. But at least the argon fuel weighs next to nothing so it can have really long legs.

Behold the Argonian Mk 2:

10970892363_9e904f181d_b.jpg

Weighing in at 102 tons and generating 10420 electricity per second, all to get just 82kN of thrust intended solely to push a 1-man capsule with a snail-like 0.08 TWR. But it has over 40,000m/s in the tank so, provided you don't mind doing burns of 15-30 minutes at a time, you can go anywhere you want with it. So far it's been to Duna and Dres, and is currently en route to Jool with about 80% fuel remaining.

This morning, Jeb landed back on Kerbin after returning my SSTO spaceplane from Laythe. When it landed it had no oxidizer left, about 100 units of liquid fuel for the jets, and I'd depleted all the xenon and nearly all the RCS. Falling into Kerbin's atmosphere from the outer edge of the SOI meant the plane came in with a ridiculous velocity; I'm amazed it didn't tumble or anything on the way in. But Jeb landed successfully, so hooray for luck.

In the course of that trip, I found a half-dozen things I wanted to tweak on the design, like how it oversteered at low speeds, or the need for a bit more xenon for its ion drives. (Sure, the burns take several hours to complete, but x4 physics acceleration means I can go watch a TV show and come back to find it nearly done. And a few thousand free delta-V is nothing to sneeze at.)

So, I decided to do a major redesign. It's not done yet, but here's the preliminary design for the Sleazy Weasel 5 (replacing the old 4b model), designed mainly for long-distance interplanetary travel:

e1DuaJu.png

It's not ready for a full flight test yet, and bumping its weight up to 33 tons (from the old 27) might just be too much for having only 2 turbojets. But it gives me something fun to tweak for the foreseeable future.

Built a Mun probe, in dire need of science, RT is holding my probe program at a short ranged leash.

Has enough dV left for a hop to another crater, then I have enough to stick some needles into Duna and Eve - finally!

Not overdoing it can keep you busy in career mode for a while.

Career mode - decided to try for a Tylo intercept with my Jool probe since I was out to it's orbit at apoapsis. In the course of adjusting my phase angle I would up getting a Vall encounter, so I went there instead. Wound up with a equatorial orbit (okay: 4.9 degrees inclined, still close enough to put it on the Vall ribbon). Shot another probe into a polar Dres orbit. Gained lots of science from both missions - picked up Advanced MetalWorks and Large Electrics. Could've picked up Very Heavy Rocketry but decided the BZs were higher priority.

Got Jeb back up from Duna's surface; getting ready to send him, three goo containers, a materials bay, a surface sample and a hell of a lot of EVA reports home. Hoping for some big returns on that mission.

I have sent my first not-so-ugly rover to the Mun :D

I forgot to add half of the science instruments that i have discovered, but it was a good test of my design, it drives really well, besides that its unable to jump over a crater and crash-land intact :P

also, misspelled South
