AengorKerbow
Well...I somehow ended up with a contract to send science data from space around Minmus. I don't remember accepting the mission, but whatever. I grabbed a couple other missions to test LV-1 in orbit around Minmus (below 6600m!) and LV-1R in flight over Kerbin. So I had an orange tank with a mainsail underneath it, and then two little LV-1Rs attached to them that I staged to go off when I reached the right altitude. I ended up way overdoing it, and put a LV-T45 with a FL-T800 tank for the stage to take me from Kerbin orbit to Minmus, then the LV-1 with a tiny little tank, RCS tank, and thrusters attached to the probe. I ended up having 3/4 of a tank left of the FL-T800 by the time I got in orbit around Minmus. Luckily I had slapped a couple docking ports on the sides of the tank, and on top of the probe. So after I'd jettisoned it, took the probe down to ultra low orbit to transmit science, I went back to the FL-T800 and docked to it. Now I have extra fuel orbiting Minmus if I need it for some mission. Or I can use it to get to the Mun if I need to get science from there. Kamuchi
Had an epic failure and success!Build a ship made out of 2 section: the rear broke down completely and the front flew just fine, although abit unbalanced... The epic failure, even IR broke lolThe epic success, it flew...?The complete build http://imgur.com/a/2eZIS

mdkendall
Patvin and Jebediah went to see the Arch.I spotted this one from low Munar orbit a while ago and noted its position. I later sent a mission to visit it but things did not go great. The ship was called the Owl and the flag left on the surface was named 'The Owl has "landed"', which should indicate how touchdown went. Long story short: 7km off target and sideways. Dondred did get home alright but takeoff was unconventional.Anyway, this time things went much better. Patvin and Jebediah went in a new ship with a much wider base and better piloting skills. Landed a few hundred meters away and had a good time sightseeing. Pics below (there is nothing in the images that gives away where it is).Javascript is disabled. SirElephant
What kind of TWR does that modded engine get?
Theoderich
I mostly crashed. My KSP got the tendency to do that lately, in the VAB of all places. I nevertheless managed to build and launch a crew taxi to my LKO Station. In preparation for actually landing on the mun or minmus I need to rotate the veterans out of there. NecroBones
What kind of TWR does that modded engine get?My 5m engine? It's approximately a scaled up quad-engine from the ARM pack (so far). Slightly more than double, both the mass and thrust from that engine. I've been debating with myself over what some good stock-like numbers would be. Scaling up from 3.75m to 5m is a 1.33x increase in diameter. The fuel tanks scale with the cube (which would be roughly 2.37x), or with the square if the height is the same (roughly 1.78x). By making an engine with 2x the thrust and mass, it's placed right between a square and cube rule, which will allow it to lift a slightly taller stack than the 3.75m engines.Anyway, that's how I arrived at those numbers. capi3101
Last night I fulfilled a bunch of contracts - a couple of flag contracts, a sci contract from minmus, that FinePrint contract to construct a ground base on Minmus (turns out the only thing I forgot to do was wait ten seconds) and another contract to stick a satellite around Kerbin - which I did with a Moneymaker probe. Big contract of the night was to test a KR-2L engine in low atmospheric flight. I built my first parts testing spaceplane for the job - turned out to be the very first plane I'd ever built that required no elevator input to take off. Test successful, landing botched - the same features that gave me a hands-free takeoff also gave me a plane that wanted to bounce instead of land. I recovered most of the plane...flipped over and sans all three engines (including the KR-2L). Still made a profit from the mission, just not as much as I could've made.At this point I have three contracts to fulfill - one to catch a small tater, and contracts to explore Duna and Ike. Been a while since I've been to the red planet, so planning is now underway.

Concentric
Gosling missions. I decided to name the ship components I put up to Bastion here the Gosling, as they were put up by the Goose. Decided to get some flag planting and data collecting done, and also complete the Explore Minmus mission. So, I moved the transfer stage from the station to the back of the lander, got Bob in, refilled the tiny amount of fuel used in the docking maneuvers from the station's tank, and then I began to transfer to Mun. Bob also grabbed a temperature reading from LKO - that data can be flown down later for science points.Got orbit, decoupled and deorbited, then landed in the Farside crater. Less than half of the lander's tank was used up, so there was no need to revert back to get the probe-tank for an emergency fuel supply. Then, I took reports and a temperature reading, planted a flag for the mission, and lifted back off.Hooked back up with the transfer stage, escaped and aerobraked at 35km. This brought my apoapse below 800km, and I still had over 130 LF, so I decided to perform the rendezvous from there. I actually matched inclinations before the aerobraking pass, and still had matched inclinations afterwards. There was an eclipse after my aerobraking pass, but I didn't manage to get an image of it - I was timewarping.Decided that I didn't need to refill the monopropellant in the capsule, and noticed I still had over 100 LF - enough to fill the lander's tank from the transfer stage and still dock the transfer stage to Bastion with the probetank's fuel. This made things simpler, so I came to a relative stop, undocked from the lander and filled up the transfer stage.Next, Minmus. After moving the transfer stage back, I plotted maneuvers to get to Minmus - a burn at periapse to get most of the altitude, then a correction at the ascending node on the way out. Didn't take pictures of the second burn.I arrived at Minmus, got orbit and transmitted the High over Minmus report. Then, I undocked the lander and the Minmus satellite (probetank), aimed for the Lesser Flats and deorbited. The landing was fine, though I disabled SAS a little early. I got back upright and then got Bob out - but he knocked over the lander. After a bit of fiddling, I got Bob back in, righted the lander, and left SAS on this time. Having transmitted a landed report, the mission was complete - and very little of the lander's fuel had been used. The transfer stage, too, was more than half full, which bodes well. I managed to obtain a Minmus flag-plant mission while there, too.Next time, I just have to get Bob off Minmus, rendezvous with his transfer stage, send him back to Bastion, and bring home the data (and perhaps Bob himself) in a spaceplane. This'll be rather routine, really. So, these couple of missions were a successful use of the Bastion station infrastructure. Kamuchi
Mess up the com...Quantum struts blew up when entering timewarpExiting timewarp, some other thingies flew off it aswell...Trying to get a stable orbit, it simply decided to break apart completely :/It flies great though without the bad wingy thingies attached! Red Iron Crown
After several tries and a lot of cursing, I docked two spacecraft for the first time.http://i.imgur.com/UNKi0ZZ.jpgCongratulations! There's nothing quite like the first time the docking magnets catch and the two ships pull together, one of the best moments in the game. (I still enjoy it now after doing it many, many times.) Your game is about to get a lot more interesting, docking opens up so many possibilities.
cantab
The little probe that couldFlown past the Mun, Eve, Moho, Eve, Kerbin, Duna and Ike, Duna again, and today Dres. And it still has 1100 m/s of delta-V.Next pass, Duna yet again to get back in the plane of the ecliptic, and then we shoot for Jool.
Jouni
I started building my new design for a 6.4x Tylo mission. The nuclear asparagus lander ended up fine, but then I ran into fuel flow problems with the transfer stage fuel tanks. Eventually I decided that it's more convenient to handle the fuel flow when the transfer stage is launched at the same time as the lander, instead of launching the fuel tanks separately. From top to bottom: transfer stage fuel tanks, lander, fairing base, and a thrust plate for attaching the Kerbin escape stage. It certainly looks big, but the dry mass is only around 160 tonnes, making it possible to launch it with a single rocket.
cantab
Fired up .25 and had a go at making a plane. First one I've built that's really worked well.Cruises nicely at 10 km with 1/3 throttle giving ~350 m/s, and made the icecap on just under half the fuel. Much above that and it does start to get squirrelly. Lands and takes off super slow, maybe 30-50 m/s. Biggest issue is very weak roll stability, so it tends to drift off course.
