They let you make pretty much everything radial mounted, and allow you to get extra distance and structural strength into your designs without that much additional weight.

If you know how to flip them or do incremental, small angle adjusts, you can build just about anything with them. Without the long and short girders, I wouldn't have been able to mount my intakes they way they are attached in this screenshot:
