WHOA! Let us know how much delta v u plan on having with this craft!

Craft weights 7 tonnes ı guess,I know ion engines are bit less powerfull but two ion engine will give me enough power to make orbital movements, flybys and some rescue missions.

still tweaking it, but it's about my 50th attempt at a large vtol ssto with the hollow structure mod and can take 10 tons (2x 5ton cargo bays) and 10 kerbals, still don't know how far but tested a vtol landing on minimus and was pretty easy, it can vtol and and get orbit on kerbin as well.

it uses,

hollow structures & hulls

procedual wings

procedural parts (for the pure liquidFuel tanks)

Insterstellar

Reaper Heavy Transport

pay no attention to hyperEdit, haha i wanted to test the vtol landing and was in a hurry to get it there

the rest of the walk around on the inside

http://imgur.com/a/yOdjb

down the center hull is a 3.75 nuculear reactor and two generators from Interstellar and the two smaller hulls have the tanks , the engines are the delta vista engines which have the unfortunate habbit of killing kerbals in nearby ships so there are also the smaller thermorocket engines with two small reactors. has 8 chairs for passengers and 2 copilot cabs

1 Turbojet and 1 LV-N. 1 Kerbal. Refuels in orbit for interplanetary travel, but I don't know where it should go.. it's sort of a useless tour bus.

My next goal is to build an interplanetary starship with starship to ground shuttles. Hopefully the craft I build can go ANYWHERE in the kerbal system, but I'm going to need some help from the community in calculating the amount of delta v I'll need to get to every planet in the kerbal system with fuel to spare.

Getting that size of a craft is NOT an issue for me anymore, I can put anything into LKO now.

My first port of call will be Duna I think, as sort of a shakedown run. I don't know what shuttle rocket engines I should use for ground to orbit transfers (it needs to be light AND it needs to be powerful, so I may use the rockomax 48-s BUT the LV-N gives me alot of room for orbital maneuvers).

I just finished my second SSTO (My first SSTO got lost on a save film I must have deleted, so the "tech" I used to make it was lost (Much like the Priests of the Machine God in 40k, don't know how to replicate stuff, so just try to keep them running xD) So this was pretty much my first again, because I had to relearn how to do it all. I give you the Result - the Justicar SSTO.

I flew her with Life Support on, so the electricity ran out and I was forced to make a quick re-entry, so I didn't get to give her a full orbit for her maiden flight.

I also wasn't expecting her to fly all the way to orbit, so I didn't take any images on the airstrip :P

However, she handles beautifully in the atmosphere, able to lift to almost straight vertical if you push her hard enough, and has enough fuel to leave a third of the jet fuel and half of her rocket fuel in the tanks whilst achieving LKO.

She also lands like a lady, her rear wheels hit first and lightly bring her nose down with breaks on, I landed in the desert as you can see and it was far from flat, I would have flown over if I wasn't so nearly out of fuel after needing to recharge the batteries :P The only problem I encountered was that after all wheels were on the ground, she veered very slightly to the right, but wasn't going fast enough to topple over :)

All in all, a great nights work!

Full steam ahead towards our Satellite deployment SSTO!

Not that it'll get released I think, but just for the lols of it, I made a kethane powered SST-Anywhere* (I know the kethane stuff is kind of hidden, but it messed up aesthetics: single small drill, small converter, small tank, and dish, you don't really need anything else if you have patience). It has 2.7km/s of ions on top of 2km/s of RAPIER rocket power... with the full tanks, if you run the rockets dry first it's more like 3.7km/s that you can get out of ions... but then you'd better hope there's an atmosphere to slow with on the other end, or the gravity of the place is puny indeed (hint: I plan to save about 1km/s of rocket power before doing the big interplanetary ejection/capture burns on ions). Oh, and it's also a rocket VTOL at not-so-low gravity to handle the Duna landings, and an splendid airbreather that can make orbit without oxidizer.

RWSA2kp.png

Oh, and I almost forgot! It's also got a KAS winch in the back, in case you want to tow an asteroid with it or something (I know the RAPIER's exhaust would collide, but it is my understanding ions work like RCS, thrusting through things), and enough container space to build a rover (four wheels, a seat, solar panel and battery, and use the container as a body). Just to round things up in versatility, if that wasn't enough.

*Anywhere that isn't Tylo or Eve, that is.

This one, though, may even see the light of release. Don't be fooled by the rocket fuel tank, no oxidizer here. BUT. 3km/s on ions with the tank full of liquid fuel, and you need about 1/3rd to put your apoapsis over the atmosphere on kerbin. So this could also go to a lot of places (i.e: Laythe, mostly, and a lot of other orbits and extremely low gravity moons) in a single stage. It's the design that gave me the idea for the other one, ions are awesome with the buff.

The Kylon (obviously inspired by its real-life counterpart with an added S) can take 10 tons to LKO and land back at the KSC runway. The plane weighs 17 tons with full fuel and without payload, giving a payload fraction of 37%. Requires B9 and KSPX to load, and probably FAR to fly.

Action groups:

1) Switches engine mode and toggles air intakes

2) Opens/closes cargo hold

3) Toggles air brakes (hidden in wings)

Craft files:

I have no clue what I'm doing regarding SSTO's... but thanks to this thread I built my second SSTO to successfully reach a 75 km orbit, but again with barely any fuel to do anything else... lol great thread though keep em coming!

Those are absolutely beautiful Rune, you always make such lovely looking planes! I'm slowly working my way up the chain, making better looking and heavier SSTOs. These are a couple of shuttles I made to ferry Kerbonauts up to my station, both can make it to 150km orbit and safely land with some careful piloting, all without refuel although they are a little airhoggy. Unfortunately, the second one has one major design flaw - the hatch is obstructed by the wing. ;.;

The Kylon (obviously inspired by its real-life counterpart with an added S)...

Well, this is awkward.

My latest SSTO, also called Kylon (it hasn't got a "The" in the name so i guess it's different) finally managed a successful mission. A massive improvement over previous designs which flopped out at around 6km due to excessive mass. To be fair it did look a lot more like a Skylon in the initial desings, but I had to sacrifice the faithfulness of the aesthetics in order to make it flyable.

I have to ask, why didn't you use the b9 SABRE engines in place of the rapiers?

Hey SofusRud love that cargobay solution (Y) Got a similar in mine, only mine has the exit in the back.

Allow me to announce my WAAAY too heavy SSTO Transport. This was originally meant to able to support interplanetary travel, but I only managed to get it to orbit. The design is tested with landing and the truck inside can both drive in and out. I know that if I add more intakes(abuse) then I might be able to get it to other planets, but I'm capped by the part count as it is. 856 parts does not give a good fps...

Anyway, spec time:

Weight: 210t

Crew capacity: 4

Part count: 856

Engines:

16 Turbojets, Roof at 25KM

2 Skipper

4 NERVA

Intakes: 74

Payload: around 37t

Range: Kerbin Orbit (estimated 150/150 max)

Mods: Engineer and Mechjeb, rest stock

And I thought mine was oversized.

Yeah, I gotta work on building smaller less complex crafts the next time. :D Still wish the engine was more optimized though, would be a wonder to have decent fps for once xD
