Toyotawolf
It was begging for it. Only downside is the cage is packed up. If it wasn't I would have set that sucker at a 45 degree angle, put side cage on it and just see how far I could throw a kerbal. What great fun.Well I guess that gives you something to.....shoot for.....
jrandom
I'm going to have to think about this idea. It may be possible but may require the use of multiple parts in order for this to work.It doesn't have to look exactly like a scissor lift, just behave like one. What this would give us are pistons that close much flatter than the standard ones. (I'm all about tightly-packed landers and payloads -- with FAR installed it helps me make smaller fairing shells to reduce atmospheric drag.) Gristle
I'm not sure why his thread only has one response but his elevator is awesome! For those interested I used a speed of 200.He started a new one and it isn't obvious it's a new thread. His WIP thread had several pages. JohnzCo changed the elevator up a bit and based it on IR. The first release was using custom animations.
GavinZac
Any chance on getting a folding piston part? I don't know what the thing is called, but there's a hydraulic lifter thingy you see at construction sites that has cross-hatch support beams that life the thing up much higher than twice the original height. One of these? Good idea!http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00vREQpHtyorfz/Stationary-Hydraulic-Lift-Table-SJG-Double-Forks-SJG-.jpgI hope you guys are taking these suggestions as a compliment, people clearly have a lot of confidence in you! SpaceTechnician
Not only do they completely replace the rotatron functionality in a smaller and more aesthetic part, but they work great No bouncing or bugs I've experienced yet. So far, I'm using them to make a low-g vtol probe with ion engines - 'the hummingbird'

Thanks for the compliment!Sounds to me like you are hankering for a full on Kerbal cannon...It would be hilarious - I think I'll get on it tonight! Should the Kerbal enter through the base or the muzzle? Edited August 19, 2013 by Jahulath

ecat
The Free docking washer doesn't lock. I've mentioned this in the OP. Now I have put it in bold. I'll add it to the part description in the next update.I accept this, but something is going on. Continuing from http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/37707-0-21-Magic-Smoke-Industries-Parts-Infernal-Robotics-0-7?p=601202&viewfull=1#post601202I cannot attain 100% repeatability of this spontaneous unplanned disassembly event but I can recreate it with worrying frequency and so far it appears to only happen when at least the upper free washer is locked. Possibly most if KSP has just been started and this is the first launch... even then it's a bit random <grrrrrr> So, is this a 'lock of a part that shouldn't be locked problem' or a free washer problem or something more generic to the IR pack or simply something wrong with the craft/game? It's appears always related to the Pack/Unpack sequence, I'm fairly certain if I remove the washers the problem will vanish altogether. I apologise for banging on about this issue but any unplanned disassembly event can ruin your day, I try to identify and avoid any possible causes whenever possible. GavinZac
Sometimes this happens with the Docking Struts mod, are you using that?
ZodiusInfuser
So, is this a 'lock of a part that shouldn't be locked problem' or a free washer problem or something more generic to the IR pack or simply something wrong with the craft/game? Does this issue still occur with the same craft if you perform those actions without using the lock feature? If so I suspect IR is getting confused by trying to lock the controls of a washer that doesn't accept controls. Sirkut would have to verify this of course, and perhaps remove the lock option for this type of robotics part if that's the case.
TinyPirate
Made one of those chair Merry Go Rounds...(Tried to put in spoiler tags due to many images, failed)Early prototypes weren't terribly... safe. But with time, and the brave sacrifice of several Kerbals, we have improved things! It even comes with fireworks mounted on the roof! There's a bit of 'slop' as the rotating piece finds keeping up with the.. .torque (?) hard.Getting the ride loaded took a while, though. Jebediah wouldn't stop messing around!
ecat
Sometimes this happens with the Docking Struts mod, are you using that? The only mods used in that craft are IR and MechJeb, not a single strut of any kind.Does this issue still occur with the same craft if you perform those actions without using the lock feature? If so I suspect IR is getting confused by trying to lock the controls of a washer that doesn't accept controls. Sirkut would have to verify this of course, and perhaps remove the lock option for this type of robotics part if that's the case. No, it has not happened without using lock. But if lock on a free washer doesn't do anything then... Well, it is confusing and may indicate a more fundamental problem. In two months playing KSP I've only had one unexplainable disassembly, that craft also used IR parts but it also used Kethane, B9, UBI Welding(?) and several other mods so no blame attributed, but I would very much like to minimise the chances of it ever happening again -----------------------The things you folk are making are amazing! Loving it all.
cecilman69
I have the same problem, I have many many mods loaded at the same time (it takes like 3 mins to load the game) but i never had an issue until I loaded Infernal robotics... help? sirkut
I've seen Scott Manley use a bearing part (which is a free moving rotatron/washer) and before he would time accelerate he would stop the rotation, engage quantum struts (to keep it moving) then time accelerate. Here's what I'll do. I'll spend my next update, adding code to not allow the menu to show up to lock the free washer.
