Lots of ongoing missions

Hello there! I'm a new KSP player and I have a question for the gurus out there.

I have a lot of ongoing missions; I don't like to End Mission on anything that was done successfully. I have satellites around Kerbin and its two moons and have a probe sitting on each moon. They are not doing anything, but I like them there as a reminder of my successes. I only use stock parts; I have no mods loaded.

Is it possible that an update will destroy my spacecraft? That is, how often does a stock part change due to an update and 'wreck' something on a mission?

Nah, since .18, stock parts had a major update and now they aren't getting new models anytime soon, if they ever do. Maybe they will be rebalanced, but then your part definition will change and the game won't see the difference, it's still loading the same part. The only thing that could happen is that compatibility of save files from an update to the other will change, but they would tell us before, so don't worry for now :)

Best thing to do is make a backup copy of your quicksave and persistent save files(or even the entire game if you have room to do so, those on steam have to make sure to disable auto update though), just in case. I backup my save files all the time, usually by adding a date or something on to the file name. Especially when I'm getting ready to dock, or land on a planet/Mun after getting into an orbit.

There is always a risk on any update that something will break, be it with KSP or mods. Basically, backup, backup, backup, and if you think you've backed up enough, backup again.

There are two things you can do. Since you're playing stock, when you download the next release, extract the ZIP you download of KSP 0.21 to a directory that isn't your current KSP 0.20 directory. COPY your Saves directory from the 0.20 to 0.21 and try and see what happens. If it works, great. If not, well, you at least have your 0.20 to go back to.

I also play all stock with no mod's and have probes on all planets and moons and i also don't wanna "end flight" them.

What i did was to first land on every possible body in the kerbol system and then do a manned fight to plant a flag where the probe landed to mark the spot. (got a lot of manned missions to go)

Looking at the upcoming changes, I do not see a persistence wipe.

However, the reaction wheel and ASAS work that C7 is working on looks like you will need electricity rotate your craft in .21

That, and possibly ASAS unit will be dead weight, or maybe serve a different purpose.

So, if you have any craft without a power supply, you may only be able to rotate them with RCS. If no RCS then......

even if the safe doesn't change, it can still malfunction. Had a rocket I built, in 0.19 it could get a Kerbal to Duna and back, in 0.20 it won't even get into LKO :)

Still looks the same, but works quite different.

That's why I usually try to focus on one thing only that I can complete before next update (like learning to build SSTO planes, or getting huge base up and running), so when THAT time comes I can just delete my save and get to another topic (if I would do few things at same time I would have to start over and over and never finish).

I can imagine that lot of stuff will actually get broken now if you are using modded coffins command pods, since the way they are put in config files changes and I'm not sure if devs will leave old way of defining them still available.

Biggest issue for me is "mod lag" - the more mods you are using the more probably they won't all be ready for new version until very close to another update. And some mods are just way too cool to leave them - they become important part of the game once you get used to them.
